8 Watch the Yamaha YZF-R15 & Gladiator Type-SS Promo Video

Promotional Videos of the Yamaha YZF-R15 and Gladiator Type-SS..

Thanks to a comment on "The Bike Chronicles of India" by a reader, I was able to download the promotional videos of the Yamaha YZF-R15 and the Gladiator Type-SS uploaded recently on the Yamaha India Website.

Yamaha YZF-R15
From the videos, the Yamaha R15 does seem to be a nimble bike.. but sadly the quality of the videos (especially of the R15) is of low-resolution.

Nevertheless, watch these videos uploaded by me on YouTube..

31 Look out for the 125 cc Bajaj XCD "Sprint" DTSi with 4 Valves..!!

The 4 Valve, Bajaj XCD Sprint will move the 125 cc segment a notch higher..

Thanks to its excellent styling, the TVS Flame has managed to get quite a lot of guys talking.. also the recently launched Yamaha Gladiator Type-SS has done its bit to get the consumer interested in the 125 cc segment. But according to me the bike which could really move the 125 cc segment a notch higher could be the Bajaj XCD DTS-i Sprint.

Bajaj XCD Sprint

XCD Sprint is "The 125 cc Bike" to look forward to in 2008..

Based on the XCD platform, in place of the DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark Plug Swirl Induction) engine of the XCD, the 125 cc XCD Sprint engine gets the DTSi (Digital Twin Spark Plug) technology which does duties on the bigger Pulsars and the Discover.

What would actually set apart the XCD Sprint from the other 125 cc bikes would be its 4-Valve engine and the Maximum Power Output of 12.5 Ps. Which would make it the most powerful 125 cc bike (the Gladiator is the current class leader at 11 Ps).

According to me, the XCD Sprint is "The 125 cc Bike" to look forward to in 2008. The styling of the XCD Sprint is radical (I'd actually term it as "Freaky"). Just look at the way the rear number plate is held by a "trellis" frame like metal piece. I even like the way the rear "Tyre Hugger" is held over the "Fat" (100 mm wide) Rear Tyre.

But the "Pièce de résistance" for me is the LED Tail Lights of the XCD Sprint. I have yet to see such a radical design on a tail lamp.

Coupled with the Most Powerful, 4-Valve, 125 cc DTSi Engine the XCD Sprint shown at the Auto Expo also sported..

With the XCD Sprint, Bajaj can actually target the "18-21 years old" (Just in College with a driving licence- segment)

  • Front Disc Brakes

  • Split Grab Rails

  • An exposed O-Ring Sealed Chain,

  • Gas Filled "Nitrox" shock absorbers at the rear,

  • A 100 section Rear Tyre (as Fat as the ones found on the Pulsar 150/180)

  • New bodywork (except for the tank),

  • "Freaky" new Headlamp Design

  • LED Tail Lamps

  • Digital Speedometers with the Tachomoter and backlit switches (like found on the Pulsars),

  • Lower handle bar for a sporty riding position,

  • Aluminium Subframe for the footrests.

With the XCD Sprint, Bajaj can actually target the "18-21 years old" Segment (Just in College with a driving licence- segment).

This is one segment which according to me has so far been neglected by every bike maker. A 150 cc bike can sometimes be intimidating for a learner and given a good alternative, young guys wouldn't like to ride 100 cc economiser bikes.

The XCD Sprint has the "Look at me" radical looks, the "Class leading Power" and comes Fully Equiped with the Eye Candy "Goodies" to go down well with the young and the restless brigade.

Launch date and Price: Although there is no official confirmation so far, according to me the XCD Sprint should make it to the showrooms by April 2008 and like all Bajaj products should also sport an aggressive price tag.

9 TVS relaunches the 125 cc Flame with Single Spark Plug

TVS relaunches the 125 cc Flame with single spark plug.. the RPM for Max Power and Max Torque changes.. Price increased by 1000 Rupees

True to its promise, TVS has relaunched the controversial 125 cc Flame in the month of March. This time TVS has used a single spark plug instead of the earlier two.

New 125 cc TVS FlameAccording to Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chariman-MD, TVS Motors..

"The current engine has been so designed that there is no loss of advantage over the twin-spark plug engine." Source Hindu.

The Official Website for the Flame has been updated with the necessary 'minor' changes for the new Flame. Everything seems to be virtually the same with the new Flame. But I did notice that the RPM at which the new Flame now develops it Maximum Power and Maximum Torque has been changed compared to its original 2 spark plug version.

Maximum Power

2 Spark Plug Flame (Original): 10.5 BHP@8250 RPM
1 Spark Plug Flame (New): 10.5 BHP@7500 RPM

Maximum Torque

2 Spark Plug Flame (Original): 10 Nm@6250 RPM
1 Spark Plug Flame (New): 10 Nm@6000 RPM

According to my opinion this change in the RPM range for Maximum Power and Maximum Torque should actually help in boosting the Fuel Efficiency of the New Flame.. on the flipside the top end performance might just come down to a lower RPM.

Price:

Meanwhile the New Flame has been priced at Rs. 46,000 (Ex-Showroom, across the country. The Original Flame was priced at Rs.45,000 Ex-Showroom ). [Source: Economic Times]

TVS Flame Calendar

Oh yes.. a free TVS Flame Calendar which can be downloaded from the TVS Flame Website. You just have to submit your e-mail address along with a "One Liner" for the Flame to be able to download it.

TVS Flame Calendar

I know that TVS wants the Flame to be a "HOT Bike" (Maybe that's why the name 'Flame')..

But.. I think the Dates on the Calendar aren't properly legible.. No..??

16 Why Do I Ride..??

Soul Searching the reason for "Riding" the Motorcycle..

  • Being one with nature

  • Like the feel of wind in my hair

  • Gives a sense of freedom

These are some of the esoteric cliches that I often hear when someone is quizzed "Why do you ride..??" To me, the above reasons actually sound more like..

  • Being one with nature..
"Get Wet when it rains, Sweat when it's Hot & Freeze when it's Cold."

  • Like the feel of wind in my hair..
"You are not wearing a Helmet."

  • Gives a sense of freedom..
"From depending on Public Transport to get you places."

According to me, a few straight forward answers would actully be (in the "desi" context)

  • Can't afford a car right now

  • Ideal to commute from A-B

  • Tour/Visit/Experience new places

  • I think, I can make the Chicks/Girls look at me

  • Makes me feel "Definitely Male"/a "Hunk".

  • Gives that daily dose of Adrenaline Rush..!!

Honestly even I subscribe to a few of the above straight forward reasons. But somehow it still doesn't quite give me a strong explanation for my urge to get on the saddle. Maybe "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand."(found here..)

But let me try to give at least one reason as to..

"Why do I ride..?"
Why Do I Ride a Motorcycle..??

"I Ride maybe because its the closest that I can come to experience flying.."

Now why do you ride..??
