The 4 Valve, Bajaj XCD Sprint will move the 125 cc segment a notch higher..
Thanks to its excellent styling, the TVS Flame has managed to get quite a lot of guys talking.. also the recently launched Yamaha Gladiator Type-SS has done its bit to get the consumer interested in the 125 cc segment. But according to me the bike which could really move the 125 cc segment a notch higher could be the Bajaj XCD DTS-i Sprint.
XCD Sprint is "The 125 cc Bike" to look forward to in 2008..
Based on the XCD platform, in place of the DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark Plug Swirl Induction) engine of the XCD, the 125 cc XCD Sprint engine gets the DTSi (Digital Twin Spark Plug) technology which does duties on the bigger Pulsars and the Discover.What would actually set apart the XCD Sprint from the other 125 cc bikes would be its 4-Valve engine and the Maximum Power Output of 12.5 Ps. Which would make it the most powerful 125 cc bike (the Gladiator is the current class leader at 11 Ps).
According to me, the XCD Sprint is "The 125 cc Bike" to look forward to in 2008. The styling of the XCD Sprint is radical (I'd actually term it as "Freaky"). Just look at the way the rear number plate is held by a "trellis" frame like metal piece. I even like the way the rear "Tyre Hugger" is held over the "Fat" (100 mm wide) Rear Tyre.
But the "Pièce de résistance" for me is the LED Tail Lights of the XCD Sprint. I have yet to see such a radical design on a tail lamp.
Coupled with the Most Powerful, 4-Valve, 125 cc DTSi Engine the XCD Sprint shown at the Auto Expo also sported..
With the XCD Sprint, Bajaj can actually target the "18-21 years old" (Just in College with a driving licence- segment)
- Front Disc Brakes
- Split Grab Rails
- An exposed O-Ring Sealed Chain,
- Gas Filled "Nitrox" shock absorbers at the rear,
- A 100 section Rear Tyre (as Fat as the ones found on the Pulsar 150/180)
- New bodywork (except for the tank),
- "Freaky" new Headlamp Design
- LED Tail Lamps
- Digital Speedometers with the Tachomoter and backlit switches (like found on the Pulsars),
- Lower handle bar for a sporty riding position,
- Aluminium Subframe for the footrests.
With the XCD Sprint, Bajaj can actually target the "18-21 years old" Segment (Just in College with a driving licence- segment).
This is one segment which according to me has so far been neglected by every bike maker. A 150 cc bike can sometimes be intimidating for a learner and given a good alternative, young guys wouldn't like to ride 100 cc economiser bikes.
The XCD Sprint has the "Look at me" radical looks, the "Class leading Power" and comes Fully Equiped with the Eye Candy "Goodies" to go down well with the young and the restless brigade.
Launch date and Price: Although there is no official confirmation so far, according to me the XCD Sprint should make it to the showrooms by April 2008 and like all Bajaj products should also sport an aggressive price tag.

Gladiator type SS,
XCD 125 with 4 valves.
TVS Flame....
YUMMMMM......
hi payeng
i just took the test ride of Gladiator ss and you were right the bike is impressive.the bike really looks good and the power is impressive for a 125cc.i just love the big bike feel and toe type gear shift.there are no false neutrals.should say the best 125cc at this moment and for just rs.44,500 its relly good value for money.
and at first glance one can mistake it to be a 150cc bike.
sux. the tvs flame is better. this one's back light looks ugly.. like soe sorta alien
Waiting for your 125 cc shootout between the Yamaha Gladiator SS/RS, TVS Flame, Bajaj XCD Sprint.
I think 100 cc bikes will be history within 1-2 yr.
Ahem...
Yamaha R6 called. It wants its ass back.
Okthnxbye.
OLD POST.... already viewed on many other blogs...
The Sprint looks good but it doesn't stand upto the Yamaha in terms of the big bike feel and build quality.Its a pity that there is a lot of power to be wasted because of the lack of the 5th gear.
@Satya,
The Build quality looked decent to me at the Auto Expo.. actually according to me all bikes in India currently have good build quality irrespective of the brand.
I do not exactly know whether it has a 5'th gear or not.
Payeng,
CHECK OU YAMAHA R 15 VIDEO AT----WWW.YAMAHA-MOTOR-INDIA.COM------
Go to Auto Expo 2008 section, Downloads, Video, you will see R 15.
Hi Satya, Felt a little amused with your detailing about the number plate description, actually its pron to vibration and is the first victim to be taken care of on bumpy rodas, tail lamps ahem i have serious reservations, a tail lamp is meant for the follower to know that i am braking, so i deally it should be big enough to attract the followers attention, but the current one and on the pulsar's its compromised and it actually dangerous, ofcourse, these are my views and i would nt mind if you disagree.but must admit the headlight rocks and on of the sexiest in the bikes available, kind a dragon face.
lucky 4 u indian fellas.. have nice bikes like this.. appreciate them.. instead of riding the same shit for 20 years..
n another thing, how much is this bike in indian rs.? n i have always wondered that are those digital speedos water proof? are they durable? that seems to be the 'hot thing' in india now.. digital speedos.. but how durable r they?
CJ
@CJ,
Its been more than a year since these digital speedometers have appeared on Indian bikes.. and these are have been no known complaints regarding water their water proof capabilities.. Even the one on my bike is doing fine.
@Anonymous (could you guys at least leave your name, email -id..??),
The videos are there alright.. thanks for pointing out.. But the Quality and Playback Speed of those videos are so far pathetic.
Can't watch anything properly there..
@Lost in Venus,
everyone is entitled to his/her own opinions
I agree with you Mr.Payeng on the build quality of the Indian bikes but only to a certain extent.I test drove both the Discover 135 and the xcd.The build quality was completely different and I can't believe the fact that they belong to the same manufacturer.The XCD looked a lot delicate than the Discover.I would agree with you about the build quality of most of the Indian bikes but I wouldn't be so sure about the XCD{the current one}.
"Its been more than a year since these digital speedometers have appeared on Indian bikes"...it's not year..more than 3 years...remember first introduced in HH KARIZMA...
@Satya,
The current XCD Feels OK to me..
@Anonymous (Name/E-mail please)
The one on the Karizma is just a Digital Display.. not speedometer. But yes, nevertheless it is a Digital One.
When it's launching yaar.want to decide between flame and sprint.what you all suggest??mileage is not a much big factor.but i really hate the paint quality and colour quality of bajaj xcd is it the same with sprint?
@Saurabh,
No idea about launch dates.. have to wait till its launched. Lets hope it is sometime soon.
i concur..
many people don't buy pulsar's even if they desire so...
because either they or their loved ones are worried about safety on pulsars...while for some it is too bulky...
honestly it is misconception...but sadly it exists...
still they want head-turning looks or *cult* looks...sprint would give them that..and if they are saving money on fuel...then its VFM for them
will chinese copycats copy this too? like the pulsar - gulsar story?
Is it a good decision to but XCD sprint as soon as it is released or would it be better to wait for a few months and see if the bike has any major problems ?

Ya...xcd sprint looks cool! I was thinkin about goin for gladiator ss or xcd....but now i think waitin for some time will be a better option. Also for someone who is as short as me.....i.e. 5 feet 4...dont u feel this bike will be on d higher side? I can wait for max two months for this bike......so should i wait or the launch is too far away??
am eagerly waiting for the xcd sprint since last 6 months
please upgrade me on its release date ( bajaj revealed nov that it ll launch in dec. )but no confirmation about the news of XCD SPRIT
DTS-I 125CC YET........
