6 Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi in Indonesia

After Colombia and Mexico, now comes a report of the Bajaj Pulsar in Indonesia

For the last few months I was contemplating to write a post about the Bajaj Pulsar in Indonesia. But since this blog already had a lot of posts on Bajaj, I thought of postponing the post to a later date. I had infact been gathering information about the foray of Bajaj in Indonesia for the past 4-5 months.

Recently I came across a thread in "Overdrive Forum" about the Pulsar becoming very popular in Indonesia. I think the time has come for me to write about it now.

"Bajaj is concentrating in providing Sales, Service and Spares before expanding its network in Indonesia.."

Yes, Bajaj has started to sell its Pulsar DTSi 180 C.C model in Indonesia. The Pulsar 180 is exported to Indonesia in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) form. It is then assembled there. Bajaj started its Indonesian operations in November 2006. The picture posted below is the that of its Indonesian Corporate Website.

Right now Bajaj is concentrating in "3S", i.e providing "Sales, Service and Spares" before expanding its network in Indonesia...

The Pulsar 180 is available in two variants there.

  • With Round Headlamp and Spoke Wheels priced at Rp 15,000,000 (Equivalent to Indian Rs. 68,500) and

  • The same UGIII version available in India at Rp 16,500,000 (Equivalent to Indian Rs. 75,300)

In my previous posts I had posted about the Indonesian TV Commercial for the Pulsar 180, and Pictures of the Pulsar 200 and 220 being modified using software progams by a few Indonesians. This shows the interest the Pulsar has generated in Indonesia.

A few Indonesian links where the Pulsar 180 is being discussed are

The language used in the content of the above links is in Indonesian. To translate it to English, the following online translation service can be used.. http://www.toggletext.com/kataku_trial.php. The translation to English isn't perfect but one can still roughly make out whatever is posted in Indonesian.

4 Bajaj Discover DTSi 135 C.C on Bajaj's Website now

Official Pics and Tech specs of the Discover 135 now availabale at BajajAuto Website

Bajaj finally has put the techspecs of its Discover DTSi 135 C.C on its website.

Bajaj Discover 135

The Discover 135 indeed comes with a wider 100/90 size (equivalent to Pulsar 150/180) rear tyre. It also sports a 240 mm dia. front disc brake and Gas Filled "Nitrox" rear shock suspension.

"Sadly the Discover 135 retains the 4 Speed Gear box.."

But as speculated earlier the Discover 135 doesn't have "Tubeless Tyres" and power is actually 13.1 PS (which is actually 12.9 bhp) not 13.1 bhp. Not much of a difference but still in the crowded Indian Motorcycle market, where the models have minor differences in terms of engine and power output; a figure of "13" has more phychological appeal than a lesser figure in "12"...

Official Tech specs of the Discover 135

Official Tech Specs Sheet for the Bajaj Discover 135 C.C

The 12.9 bhp and additional goodies like wider rear tyre, gas filled rear shocks, front discs put the Discover 135 right on top of the other 125 C.C bikes. But sadly the Discover 135 retains the 4 Speed Gear box. A 5 Speed Gearbox would have perfectly complimented the 12.9 bhp and completed the package. Even the Yamaha Gladiator and the Suzuki Heat/Zeus has 5 Speed transmissions.

With the launch of the Discover 135 there can be two possible situations for Bajaj Auto..

"Even if the Discover 135 dosen't sell well, Bajaj isn't going to incur significant loses since the Discover 135 shares majority of its parts with the other Discover models.."

  • The Discover 135 might become a hit and sell handsomely, meanwhile it might cannibalize the sales of the smaller Discover 112 and 125 C.C.

  • The Discover 135 C.C might not sell that well.

In the first situation Bajaj would be more than happy if customers prefer the feature laden but costly (than the Discover 112 and 125) Discover 135 over the 112 and 135.

In the latter situation, Bajaj isn't going to incur significant loses since the Discover 135 shares majority of its parts with the other Discover models.

Smart Business..!! Being an MBA myself, I can't help but admire the business strategies of Bajaj Auto.

Now lets see what the competition has in reply to this..

Indo-China JV Global Auto, rolls out its first two wheeler from West Bengal; a 125 C.C Motorcycle

A post was made in "The Bike Chronicles of India" during February 2007. It was on an Indo China joint venture between Xenitis Group of India and Guangzhou Motors Co. of China planning to manufacture two wheelers from the State of West Bengal. The new JV has been named as Global Automobiles.

Global Auto has finally launched its first offering, a 125 C.C bike called "Xpression".

125 C.C Xpression from Global Auto

The Bike is available in three colors: Red, Black and Blue.

It has a price tag of Rs. 39,000 (Ex-Showroom, probably in West Bengal)

The Bike has the following specifications:

Torque : 8.4 Nm (=0.8484 kgm) at 7500 rpm

Gear: 5 Gears

DIMENSIONS:

  • Length : 2040 mm
  • Width : 780 mm
  • Height : 1130 mm
  • Wheel Base : 1280 mm
  • Min. Turning Radius : 2165 mm

Visit the Corporate Website of Global Auto

Wallpaper of the 125 C.C "Xpression" from Global Auto

The 125 C.C bike will be made available initially in the Eastern part of India particularly in West Bengal before being launched nationally. Being a new entrant in the highly competitive Indian two wheeler sector, it has its work cut out against stong competitors like Hero Honda, Honda, Bajaj, TVS and Yamaha.

Being a new two wheeler manufacturer, it will have to prove itself in the quality department. Moreover the introductory price of Rs.39,000 (Ex-Showroom, probably for West Bengal) though is competitive it isn't much less than its competitors.

Price of other 125 C.C models:

Bajaj Discover DTSi: Rs.42,500 (Ex-Showroom, New Delhi)
TVS Victor GLX: Rs.43,700 (Ex-Showroom, Kolkata)

So any takers for the Xpression from Global Auto..??
