28 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R: World’s Best 250cc Bike Gets Better

Official photos/ initial details of the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R

The official photos of the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R was recently put up on the Kawasaki Japan Website. Although complete technical details/specifications are still awaited, I can almost hear Kawasaki saying: "Take that Honda..!!"

From whatever has been made public by Kawasaki, the 2013 Edition definitely grabs your attention. The 2013 Ninja 250R gets a complete styling makeover, addition of features and also some changes to the engine and chassis as well.

This 2013 upgrade should definitely make it to India soon. It will be interesting to note the price at which it is launched in India. Also will be interesting to note whether there would be any performance upgrade to an already potent package. Aaarrg..!! How I wish I was still single or had a higher paying job..!!

What’s new in the 2013 Ninja 250R?

  • Ninja ZX10R inspired sharp & aggressive styling
  • Optional ABS
  • Tweaks to the engine and chassis
  • Digital Speedometer
  • Wider 140 section rear tyre
  • Dual throttle valves
  • Heat management system

Styling / feature changes:

The new design seems to be heavily inspired by its 1,000cc big brother the Ninja ZX10R. The body work is edgy, sharp and with proper twin headlamps the 2013 Ninja 250R looks angrier and more aggressive. The exhaust is now chunkier and is visually substantial than the slender unit of the current one. There are additions of new features as well like a digital display console and a pass switch. But the most important addition on the 2013 Ninja 250R is the option of an ABS unit.

Engine / Chassis changes:

Under the skin the 2013 Ninja 250R gets changes to the engine and the chassis as well. The engine features new crankcases, new pistons and an all-new aluminium die-cast cylinder. The diamond-style frame has been optimised for rigidity and gets rubber engine mounts to significantly reduce engine vibration (anyway I have not found any significant vibration in the current model) further. The suspension seems to have got revised damping settings and softer spring rates both at the front and rear for increased comfort during city riding as well as a firmer feeling when sport riding. The rear tyre has been upgraded one size up now to a 140 section (the current one comes with a 130 section).

Dual Throttle valves:

Like the Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-6R, the new Ninja 250 uses a second set of ECU-controlled throttle valves to precisely regulate intake airflow for natural, linear response, improved combustion efficiency and increased power.

Heat management system:

The 2013 Ninja 250R gets large openings and fin design of the fairings that help promote airflow that assists with heat dissipation when moving. When stuck in traffic, the radiator fan cover directs hot engine air down and away from the rider, adding to increased rider comfort.

The bike now looks cutting edge and very handsome. It will be interesting to see how Bajaj plans to price this bike in India.
Any plans for locally manufacturing this bike?

Finally the Ninja 250R looks like a true blue super sport bike and has strong styling like R15 V 2.0...

The so called futuristic styling of Honda Cbr 250r is no match for the New Ninja 250r, now Cbr 250r looks like old school design and its technology has been surpassed by the New Ninja 250r...RIP Cbr 250r...

Woo... Hoo... What a bike???
I have always loved the analog console of the current model and I was shocked to know that 2013 model is getting a digital console... But Kawasaki has also considered people like me and has given a large tacho...
Awesome... Sexy... Is there any other word to describe this bike??? I dont know...
@ all other 250s: Eat that!!!

@Crash,

In India, the CBR250R does have the advantage of a price range between (Rs. 1.6-1.85 lakhs on road), the current Ninja 250R is priced at around Rs. 3.15 lakhs (on road).

Though interestingly the international prices of the CBR250R and Ninja 250R are nearly at the same level same.

Anyway when both bikes (current Ninja 250R and CBR250R) are ridden one can make out that the Ninja 250R feels a segment above and more mature than the CBR250R in terms of ride feel and is worth the extra money.

Lets now wait for the official engine specs and pricing for India

Love the tacho, just the way I want it! now CBR250 looks like very conservative in styling (which suits it's sports tourer branding), while Ninja looks like true super sports bike.

Yup Cbr 250 does have a price advantage over Ninja 250r but I have been ridiculed and offended when Cbr 250r fanboys boast about lack of ABS, digital display and so called old school styling of the ninja 250r and now, the new Ninja 250r silences them with next gen styling inspired from its bigger brother ZX 10R...note: I don't own an Ninja

Now this is a real 250cc bike. Seems 'perfect' should have a new synonym - Ninja250r.

All the best for the people who are expecting a salary hike soon! ;) May your prayers be soon answered.

I respect Honda for bringing a world class 250cc motorbike affordable to the masses but when it comes to performance Cbr 250r(VFR 250r) doesn't stand a chance against Ninja 250r, the single cylinder Cbr 250r looses to the mighty twin cylinder Ninja 250r though the margin is thin the Ninja 250r wins hands down, the Honda's answer to the Ninja should be the VTR 250r, with it's Ducati monster like naked styling and a twin cylinder engine throwing around 30bhp will be worthy competitor to the Ninja 250r...

@crash only answer to ninja 250r in terms of handling and power if yamaha launches something like yzf r25....which fans across india are waitin..still cbr 250r is best option for touring its more like allrounder unlik ninja which is race track bike............

@Anon above

Just because Honda wants to call the CBR250R as a sports tourer doesn't mean that the Ninja 250R can't tour.

I would rate the Ninja 250R a better high speed tourer on the highway than the CBR250R because of the awesome handling of the Ninja 250R.

To me the Ninja 250R is a better rounded (albeit expensive) bike than the CBR250R.

In other words Ninja 250r is a perfect hybrid of a super sport and tourer, a complete all rounder...Yes Yamaha R25 will be a trump card in the 250cc class if launched soon...

Hi, Mr. Satedal Payeng :)
It's Rifky From Indonesia :D

Nice,
Kawasaki Ninja 250R FI ABS 2013, Launched First in Indonesia then to the rest of the World, According To Kawasaki Heavy Industries SpokePerson Indonesia is one of the biggest market for the Ninja Brand.

Now that The All New Ninja 250R is Available, it makes the Honda CBR 250R Feels Realy Overpriced, Don't you think?

The Appearence of the All New Ninja 250R Put the CBR 250R "on a Differently Whole new Level"

hi,

i am a recent bike enthusiast . after exploring the net for bike related sites i must say this is the best blog i have come across. i have learnt a lot from your articles. so thank you.

as for this particular topic ,does the price difference between cdr and ninja has anything to do with different taxation?

Payeng said...

Thanks Carvaka,

the main reason for the difference in price between the CBR250R and the Ninja 250R in India is because of the fact that the CBR250R is manufactured in India whereas the Ninja 250R is manufactured in Thailand which is assemlbed in India by Bajaj Auto.

Therefore the Ninja 250R attracts govt. duties which jack up the price. Hope that someday Kawasaki starts to make the Ninja 250R in India as well.

well biker next door...i think cbr 250r seating position more relaxed thn ninja..in matter of high speeds cbr 250r with its single cylinder performs well ninja just head of becoz one more cylinder bit more power...and more thing cbr 25o r performs well on race track not int he league of r15 but few mods cbr 250r suits race track also..feed back frm owners in banglore i got is very gud abt cbr 250r...

FINALLY! I think with this, the Ninja has drawn his sword from its sheath. It finally has all those features (except front USD)and looks in its arsenal that will banish all pretenders into oblivion.

Now imagine the mayhem if Bajaj & Kawa slash the price of the existing Ninja 250R! Highly unlikely tho, as it's a CKD import. I just hope that they dont hike the price when it comes (and that they find a way to manufacture this in India)

And dude, frankly, don't think "Take that Honda.." is what Kwacker was thinking coz it has invoked the Ninjas and is a tribute to its moniker. The competition is redundant, coz there is none, it's now in a league of one!

gunawanspurs said...

The numbers for Indonesian market, 32 PS & 22 Nm, slight edge on max power but vastly improved max torque, and especially, the powerband is more relaxed yet fulfilling, so basically it overcomes the weakness against its major competitor while extending the lead and improving the rough edges of the old version.

Obviously, you guys in India got screwed regarding Ninja 250 pricing, but atleast there's a logical explanation about it. That can't be said regarding the oblivious pricing of Duke 200 in Indonesia, LOL.

New Ninja 250 non ABS will be priced around 3 times the price of Bajaj Pulsar 180 UG4 here, and the ABS version will be around 3 times also of Pulsar 220F price in my country. Duke 200's Indonesia price ? Slightly more expensive than Ninja 250 ABS version, LOLOLOLOL. :D

Regards.

Hey S.P like your tag line "TAKE THAT HONDA"

But still Yamaha & Honda are are one step ahead of these Kwakers & Hyosungs in tecnology & styling.

No doubt that 250cc segment had been dominated by kwakers for past 3 decades. But now they got serious competition. Yamaha yet to enter this segment.

Honda's C-ABS, ride quality, better drivability, more practical & mordern styling forced Kwaker makers to build a new age bike.

Which is delivered to mordern world now. I like it. But then they still are followers.

If bhp would have been only criteria, Hayabusa would have been best super sports bike leaving behind Yamaha, Honda, Ducati & BMW's

Hi,

Kawasaki took nice decision to upgrade Ninja 250R.it looks more nice then before.Killer!

gunawanspurs said...

Honda CBR 250 R is a sport tourer bike with fairing, clearly a ladder lower in class compared to Kawasaki Ninja 250 FI, which was a true quarter litre super sport bike. Not a knock to that nice bike from Honda, but that still the truth.

You can talk your mouth with fanboism all the way, still won't change the thoughts of people in the know, who can distinguish the real quality difference beetween these two bikes.

Honda can sell its bike 20% cheaper in Indonesia or 30% cheaper in Thailand, and that won't count as underpricing, because that's the real value of it, which was LOWER compared to Ninja 250. And that's proven, with facts that Ninja 250 is the best selling quarter litre sport bike in South East Asia, bar none, while priced higher, even compared to VTR 250, a straight import from Japan.

I'm confused. Should I wait for the ninja to come out or just go for the KTM Duke?

where is Upside down forks??? Its necessary for complete package.. Currently only Duke200 is complete entry level bike with resonable price..
