Its almost official.. Yamaha will launch a new upgraded R15 in January and Honda will start taking bookings of the CBR250R from February 2011..!!
Yamaha to bring in a better looking R15:
The new year couldn't have started in a better way for dudes looking to buy a new bike. Just a couple of days back there were a couple of spy photos of an (what looked like) upgraded R15. Today a member of xBhp.Com has posted the screen shot of a reply to his mail from Yamaha India.
He had inquired about any new R15 to Yamaha India and in his reply he has been informed that Yamaha India would actually launch an upgraded R15 in January 2011..!!
Posted below is the screen shot of the e-mail reply:
Bookings for the CBR250R to start from Feb 2011:
According to Bike India Magazine's website, Honda would start taking bookings for the CBR250R from Feb 2011 onwards. The deliveries are supposed to commence from April 2011.
This is what Bike India has reported:
"If you have been waiting buy a new-age performance bike then the time is coming close
Honda to begin accepting booking for the much anticipated CBR 250R from 1st February 2011 in India and will launch the bike in April 2011. The bike features a liquid-cooled, single cylinder, 4-valve DOHC engine that churns out peak power of 26 PS and peak torque of 23 Nm; which has the potential to deliver a top-speed of over 150 km/h. The bike be offered in Combined-ABS and non-ABS versions and it will come with 6-speed gearbox and Honda's advanced PGM-FI technology and front and rear discs.
Expect the price to be between Rs 1.5 lakh to 1.75 lakh in India".
My Take:
If Yamaha doesn't hike up the price of the new R15 too much, then according to me, it could still stop quite a few of its potential buyers from opting for the CBR250R instead.
The new R15 probably might not getting any engine upgrade but just a revamped/healthy rear end. Nevertheless the R15 is already a gem of a motorcycle and would still find favor among bikers who value race bred dynamics.
2011 couldn't have started on a better note for enthusiast "desi" bikers..!!

R15, though a 150, is better in many ways than the CBR250.. Definitely the upgrade looks astronomically better than the CBR.. And the R15 is much more focused sports bike than the CBR.. While the CBR250 is just like a commuter bike with a 250cc engine n better power.. Dynamics, handling and power delivery of the CBR250 proves my point.. FUN FACTOR is associated only with the R15.. And a price tag of 1.5 lacs for the Honda... I am simply not convinced...
@Anupam,
I'll tend to agree that the R15 is a more track/fun focused bike. But lets wait for the test tide experience of the CBR250R before writing it off as a commuter bike with a 250 cc engine.
I second the former 2 comments!!! R15 appeals more to me than CBR250R cuz it reflects fun and is less likely to inch ur pocket!
