36 Its Official..!! Honda to launch CBR250R in India..!!

Enthusiasts rejoice, Honda will bring in the CBR250R to India.. in fact it will be manufactured in India..!!

Honda has officially unveiled the new CBR250R in Thailand and stated in it's official press release that that it will sell the CBR250R in India too..!!

Wow..!! Its probably one of of the most significant launches for a bike enthusiast in India. More than what I expected from Honda. After getting a glimpse of the new CBR150R, I was hoping that Honda should launch the CBR 150R in India. But in fact Honda has surprised and launched a CBR250R instead..!!

And to top it off, the CBR250R will be manufactured in India. Which means that we can probably expect a competitive pricing.

From the official press release:

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (Pvt.) Ltd. will also start production of the CBR250R next spring and extend sales from India to South America.

Honda will also offer the CBR250R at a more affordable price in the diversified Indian motorcycle market by effectively carrying out global procurement of parts and materials in the same way as Thai Honda.
"

"The CBR250R is equipped with a newly-developed liquid-cooled 250cc 4-stroke 4-valve single-cylinder DOHC engine that is easy to handle. High environmental performance that meets Euro 3 emission standards and Thailand's sixth emission standards was realized by adopting an electronically controlled fuel injection system (PGM-FI*1) as well as an O2 sensor and taking advantage of the combined effect with a catalyzer fitted inside the exhaust pipe.

The full-cowl body presents a highly advanced design full of functional beauty. The light and compact frame, made of a highly-rigid diamond shape in a truss structure, offers agile handling and steady maneuverability as a sports model, while the cowl design enables optimal control of the wind toward the engine or the rider.

In the area of safety technology, the CBR250R's specifications incorporate Combined ABS, a world first*2 for a 250cc-class road sports model into a designated type. The Combined ABS makes vehicle movements more stable during braking by bringing together a Combined Brake System (CBS, a front- and rear-wheel interlocking braking system) and an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS, a braking system that prevents wheel lock during sudden braking or under unfavorable conditions
)"

Launch Date in India

The launch of the Honda CBR250R in India will be in April 2011.

Price of the Honda CBR250R in india

There has been no official statements made for the price, but if Mahindra can price its "Mojo" at 1.75 lakhs (ex-showroom), then figure the price of the much much sexier CBR250R for yourself. To me the killer price would be Rs. 1.5 Lakhs on road..!!

But I am getting a feeling that Honda will probably charge a premium on this bike and the on road price will probably touch "2 lakhs", at least for the ABS version.

Official maximum power and torque figures are yet to be announced.

But considering its a liquid cooled, single cylinder engine, I am expecting peak power of around 26-27 Ps.

I beleive this is a typo 'And to top it off, the CBR150R will be manufacturer in India......!!

looks like excitement got to you :)

In their website , they didnt tell anything about CBR 150 .. they only telling about CBR 250 ...

I think they will launch only CBR 250 in india....

gr8 news... what would be the expected price if its built in india with single cylinder?

Subhankar said...

Hmmm...News is good. But I hoped for the CBR150. This will not fit my budget:(

"And to top it off, the CBR150R will be manufacturer in India. Which means that we can expect a competitive pricing as well..!!"

BTW Payeng dude....will that be CBR150R or CBR250R? Typo???

Payeng said...

Opps.. sorry for the typo.

Good news, but sad news for me.

I was thinking of seriously getting the CBR 150R if launched. Atleast something to challenge the R15. That segment is stagnant now, with no contenders against the Yammy.

CBR 250R will be around the price of the Mini Ninja. Now this is going out of budget. I would rather buy another car.

Hey Payeng, Is it CBR 150R or CBR 250R getting launched?...bit confusing (as u mentioned as typo mistake)...but if it CBR 250R then i better start saving now...but i believe it will be cheaper than 1.5 lac...as when you see body, headlamp and few other styling...it looks/resembles a lot has been taken from Karizma ZMR...so they are manufacturing it in india....so body parts are cheap/cost saving(it is just my opinion).

Also lastweek in NDTV profit channel, Rajiv bajaj clear mentioned that before mid of next year, bajaj will launch couple of new bikes may be KTM bikes (which is designed & manufactured in india)....and by end of next year they import/sell bikes in india from KTM stable directly too...as they are No.1 in street bike....but good to see india is getting all goodies wht is deserved at last.....hope finally starting next year (as max bike commuter are present in india)...WOW!!!

Lovely bike. Thanks mate for keeping us informed.

The exhaust looks a real sore eye to me in parlance to the proportions of the bike!!

Also a single cylinder motor is definitely a let down when you that it's predecessor CBR 250RR, which was being manufactured around 16 years back had a 4 cylinder power plant!! Obviously this mill would produce lower power and torque numbers than the Ninja and from my point of view, the Ninja still remains the better buy :)

if they price cbr250 aroung 1.5lakh then cbr150r should be like 1 lakh but then what will happen to 125cc ktm duke because rumors are that will also be priced 1 lakh. so i think 125 duke has to be priced low to make it instant hit. what you say payeng sir?

Payeng said...

@Sharath, its the CBR250R that is being considered for India

@Hemant,

the prices of the CBR250R have still not been made official.. lets wait for official pricing. So is the case with the KTM 125 Duke.

The KTM 125 Duke will appeal to a different kind of bikers, the KTM 125 Duke will be light weight and yet have all good bits.

But as Honda has launched a CBR150R and a CBR250R at the same time, I don't see any reason why the KTM's can't come in more than 125 cc Avatar. If that happens then the real fun will begin.

Ever since news broke out, I've been pinching , slappin and kickin myself...This is THE Game-changer! (if Honda keeps its promise..and I think they will)
This is just what was needed. It hits the sweet spot at just about everything..Design, power, fuel-injection, performance, dynamics, comfort, pedigree, features and most importantly price. Hell, even the launch date might be right although a '10 launch wud've been sweeter,as we need to get our finances in place... Everyone will have to go back to their corel-drawing ! And some future launches are in serious jeopardy- the 125 Duke (rumored to be atleast 1 lac), the Mojo and that overpriced R15 and the junk ZMR.

I was goin thru some forums and ppl were cribbing that it is JUST a single pot with JUST 25-26 bhp. All you people, kindly head over to the Bajaj Pro-biking showroom and throw down ur 3 lakh dosh for u-know-wht...When bikemakers give almost-everything, we crib that one cud buy a hatchback at the same price and when something is missing, we crib again!
I think the sensible brains are at HMSI and not Honda-SIEL. If everything goes well, this is gonna be one EPIC launch in the history of Indian biking and the the result will be on the roads for all to see.
AS for me, I'm selecting the colour....it's gonna be a looong 5 months now.

P.S. @SP- WHO exactly promised that it is gonna be priced 'well-under' 1.5L. I'm not clear on this...

Cé$âr said...

The more I see this bike the more I'm in love with it... the red-white-blue scheme is very very appealing..

Actually I don't care about the bhp/single cylender $&%^ most forums are complaining about. Its a damn good looking bike and is being rumored to sell at a much lower than expected price.

The only competitor at this price is expected to be Bajaj, I think (unless Yamaha pulls up a surprise). Do you think Bajaj will come up with a worthy competitor in time??

Payeng said...

@Melville, the Thai price for the CBR250R seems to have been accounced and when converted to Indian rupees, that seems to be around 1.5 lakh..!!

By the way the average Thai biker according to me is probably a bit better off than an average India biker. Now since Honda will manufacture the CBR250R both in Thailand and India.. who knows we might get a good bargain as well.

@ Ce$ar,

the CBR250R will definitely hurt the Pulsar 220's crown of being the Fastest Indian.. who knows Bajaj might strike back hard with an even more potent machine.. but then bikes will always get better and faster with each passing year. I say better go for the one that your heart calls out for.

praveen said...

sounds is good but u dont even think abt it honda will price it nearly or less then ninja only sound parties can buy this machine, well wait for the new pulsar 2011 & ktm duke 125, its not a hoax

Take a chill pill and take a long hike.

Note the date on which the post was made. Now go and and search when Honda made the official indication of the price for India.

Post with your real gmail profile, if you can (with the same kind of attitude).
