Yamaha India shows the YZF-R15 at the Auto Expo and the prototype FZ150. I was now sure that Yamaha India was going back to its RD350 & RX100 roots. Finally..!!

February 15, 2008:

It’s only a matter of time before the 12.5 bhp, 4 Valve, 125 cc Bajaj XCD Sprint with DTSi engine will enter the fray..

Feb 16, 2008:

Yamaha India Officially says (Source: Hindu Businessline) that it wants to refocus in the 100 cc segment with a variant of the "Crux".

Yamaha Crux

What..?? 100 c.c..?? Not Again..!!

Why doesn't Yamaha India utilize its resources and focus on upgrading the 125 cc engine on the Gladiator..?? It’s only a matter of time before the 12.5 bhp, 4 Valve, 125 cc Bajaj XCD Sprint with DTSi engine (with Sci-Fi styling and with goodies like Digital Speedo and front Disc) will enter the fray.

"Bajaj Auto wins technology patent case against TVS Motors"
Bajaj Auto Vs TVS Motors

The bone on contention between Bajaj auto and TVS Motors for the last few months has been the two spark plugs that TVS has used in its 125 cc Flame, which Bajaj Auto says is an infringement of its Patented DTSi (Digital Twin Spark Plug) Technology.

The Madras High Court has finally given the verdict in favor of Bajaj Auto.

But Hindu Business Line also says that, "TVS may have a stand-by engine for Flame".

TVS Motors now plans to appeal before the division bench of the Madras High Court.

Its no secret that sales of TVS Motors has waned down over the last one year. TVS had high hopes on the new Flame to arrest the decline.. even during the Auto Expo 2008, it was the Flame which was the showered with attention by TVS.

This court order will definitely hurt TVS Motors a lot. Had it not been for this legal tussle, the Flame would have been out on the roads by now.

With the caliber of technology Yamaha has, with the right kind of leadership, I don't think, Yamaha would have much difficulty in making it big on the 100cc segment also.

But I guess the real bomb fell for the TVS dudes, as they might have pinned a lot of hopes on the Flame!!

There was never any doubt over the technological superiority of Yamaha..

But probably a 100 cc commuter is not what "desi" bikers "need" or "want" from Yamaha India.. (Hero Honda has been doing an excellent job at it)

TVS had it coming. They've been copying away merrily over the years. The Victor's styling was derived from the CBZ, Centra from the Passion & Apache had loads of inspiration from the Pulsar.

One thing that stood out was TVS' engineering competence. Sad to see then, that they resorted to copying in the engineering department as well.

The TVS Flame is infact out in the market, at least here in Bangalore I have seen a couple of them on the roads.
And every morning while I pass by the TVS showroom, there is some new customer taking a test ride.
So does this injunction apply only in TN?

I think TVS managed to sell a few units of the Flame before the stay order was given by the court..

Just think of the plight of those new owners right now.. TVS should not have sold at all if they saw this coming.

TVS Flame rocked! Spoilsport Bajaj. I guess the owners of Flames will have a limited edition bike, which may fetch $$$$$$ in future.

Some one said in the comment that TVS copied designs from various motorcycles. I request you to remove that comment from the list. TVS never copied any of the designs mentioned there and any fool can see that they are not related. In engine department, I can say Bajaj downsized BMW 450 Funduro power plant. What twin spark? It was already there decades before. If patent is to be given to some one, Alfa Romeo (FIAT) should own it. I can say Bajaj killed TVS through unfair practices. Try competing with TVS Flame, the Bajaj stuff pales. TVS is a real indigenous manufacturer. It rose from the TVS max days when the sales went almost nil and I am sure it will rise again. Let the TVS guys plod a four cylinder head and single spark plug and release the Flame. I am sure, pulsar cannot hold a candle to TVS Apache RTR.
