Bajaj launches a new 150 cc variant of the Discover family

Just as stated by Mr. Rajeev Bajaj a few weeks earlier, Bajaj Auto has launched a 150 cc variant of the Discover platform of motorcycle. This new variant carries forward the same Discover family looks. The new launch is definitely nothing much for the enthusiats to look forward to, but it surely is one more option for the average commuting biker.

The positive take away from this (and also the Pulsar 135LS) is that Bajaj has started to think and act "Light"!

So what's new?

• Apart from alloy wheels and a self start, the Discover 150 DTS-i also gets a front Disc brake as a standard feature



• A new 144.8 cc DTS-i engine, and



• A shocking price tag of Rs. 46,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi)

Most of the sites/blogs who have also carried this news have missed the point that this is an extremely enticing price for a person looking for a commuter motorcycle in India. Just compare the following prices with the new Discover 150's price.

What is actually a Long/Short (Under/Over Square) Engine? How do they differ in engine characteristics?

I clearly remember that when the TVS Apache RTR 160 was launched in 2007, TVS made sure to highlight (at least in the print media) that the engine of the RTR was an "Over Square" one. But there was never a proper explanation of what the term "over square" engine meant or what exactly was it's benefit for the rider.

Let me try to explain these terms in as simple English as possible.

The engine size along with the cubic capacity (cc) is also specified as "Bore x Stroke" dimensions of its cylinder.

Bore: The Diameter of the cylinder block

Stroke: The Depth of the cylinder block

Accoring to me, the Hero Honda Passion (Plus/Pro) occupies a unique position in the minds of the 2 wheeler buying consumer of India. For them, the Passion probably qualifies as the most stylish among the 100 cc motorcycles.

Therefore when Honda's new (110 cc) CB Twister arrived and threatened to take away the crown as the most stylish 100 (+) cc motorcycle, a refreshed Passion Pro from Hero Honda was naturally expected to defend its position.

So there we have it, the 2010 refreshed version of the Passion Pro. The details of the Passion Pro has been very recently updated on Hero Honda's site.

I have also managed to see a couple of them plying on our roads.
