40 2012 TVS Apache RTR Series [Official Photos/Colors/Prices]

Official details of the 2012 Apache RTR Series from TVS..

It's finally official now that the 2012 upgrade of the Apache RTR (160/180) models are just cosmetic. The engine specs seems to have not been altered. TVS Motor has published details like the new prices and the colors.

It also looks like TVS is trying to reposition this new RTR series with a "Beast" image & being "Scarily Fast" compared to their earlier positioning which was based on being born out of it's racing heritage ("Racing DNA").

Is it the right way forward? You decide..

What new?
[1] New headlamp with LED Daytime Running Lamps (first on an Indian bike)
[2] New Tank extension/flaps to make the tank appear bulky
[3] Rider & Pillion seperate foot pegs
[4] Reshaped seat (especially around the rider area)
    [5] New side panels
[6] Bigger engine guard / belly pan
[7] New color combinations / graphics
[8] Carbon fibre finish to the black pastic around the side, rear panels and the speedo console
[9] Slightly reddesigned speedo console and switch gear
    [10] DC Lighting on the RTR 160 & 180
[11] RTR 160 gets a wider 110 section rear tyre (up from the earlier 100 section)
[12] RTR 160 also gets tubeless tyres

Colors

RTR 160 - 4 dual-tone color shades: Green, Red, Yellow & Grey with Black as the base color
RTR 180 - White, Yellow, Grey & Black
RTR 180 ABS - White and Black

Price: (Ex-Showroom Delhi as on 30'th Apr 2012)
RTR 160 - Rs 67,505
RTR 180 - Rs 72,090
RTR 180 ABS - Rs 82,780

such a sad design..
so much overdone..

Sanket TVS is totally confused.

first they try to make a compact street bike an awesome track bike and now they try to make the same small bike as a MUSCLE bike by adding ugly plastic. what a joke

The older one looks so much better. When will Indian auto companies realise that smooth designs last longer and age gracefully....

Vivek4mJH said...

The tank extensions & belly pan are horribly oversized. The headlight looks disjointed. TVS have spoiled a tight, well balanced design.

Sajal said...

well TVS overshot the mark big time. it looks look more of a hastly effort rather than being a well thought, planned and moving towards a new direction project. wonder what was the thought process behind this.

I loved the Apache RTR 180 and still believe that the white color scheme makes one of the best looking Indian motorcycles on road... and then they come up with this!!

F-A-I-L.
Looks like a bad aftermarket mod-job to me, except the DRLs.
It's a welcome move from apache to add DRLs on a bike.

this is how you mess up a decent design. bravo TVS you lost the respect of bikers completely this time.

Racing DNA? what a joke!

so sad to see the disappointed and unbalance design.....

hopefully they will realize their foolishness....

Y was the nid to change it all.. The very moment i saw dis bike i felt beating up those tvs fellas.

gosh!!! what was TVS thinking... all they could have done is some modification with the headlight... rather than making a mockery of the entire bike... am disgusted!!! TVS call back the model asap if you want to retain whatever sales you have...

what the heck...! i feel pity for TVS,, such a pathetic design.., flop bike..! ;-(

first ride it then comment it................bloody fellows.

Gunawan MS said...

Since the engine is untouched, it's fair to comment based solely on how it looks. Beauty is certainly in the eyes of the beholder, but i must say this approach doesn't seem all that succesful.

all of you take a ride then
commment

Gunawan MS said...

LOL, what is the relation of how a bike looks with the way it performs in a ride ??

Do that DRL light, bigger engine belly cowl, and tank flap make the bike run any faster, handle better in the corner, or more supple in shock absorbing ??

Does the bike even get a DC light now, the last type sold in Indonesia is still using AC lighting ?

Salesmen (of any particular bike) and fanboys shouldn't be allowed to comment, please.

guyz dont think u always need to ride an angel....beast always looks ugly dont see as a whole bike just look at in angles u can see the detail in its feature.

BUT RTR IS FAST......!

I HAVE OWNED THIS BIKE LAST 3 YEARS

Gunawan MS said...

Well, riding an Apache was used to be beastly yet elegant, and now with this supposedly "physical updates", it turns into beastly ride with wacky appereance. I certainly won't call it a progress in the right direction, will you ??

And RTR is fast ?? Have you ever ride a Honda NSR 150 SP and Yamaha TZM 150 ?? Or atleast Kawasaki Ninja 150 RR that's still in production (atleast in my country) ? Those are REAL fast bikes mate.

Apache, Pulsar, they're much more of sport touring bike in my book, you DON'T GLOAT over their speeding performance, only makes you look like a fool.

Payeng said...

@Gunawan,

wish we could ride real speed machines like the Ninja 150RR.. you are lucky that it still is in production in Indonesia.

Gunawan MS said...

@Payeng, sorry if my previous post sounds rather cocky, but gotta say that to put things into clearer perspective.

I marvel Indian made bikes, actually i really respect your country success in 2wheel automotive industry, doing much better with inhouse brands, unlike things in my country which was nothing much than being slaves of the Japs. Heck, i actually bought & still own an Indian made bike, LOL.

But some peeps need to learn more and talk less, using their common sense & logic more rather than their emotion of fanaticsm.

Regards. :)

I owned tvs apache rtr160(Hyperedge) till july2012 and sold it and I am one of the biggest fan of apache rtr. I loved the sound of this bike most. After a lot of research I bought new apache rtr 180 white(beast) in Augest. Well though TVS has said that engine and every other specification is same other than added plastic and wheelbase, I felt that the sound is totally different and much to my dislike it has lost its macho effect but the balance is good and also the pillon feels comfortable. Both the elbows and shoulders are not locked which is very good and also suspension has improved and bike is less bumpy.
All in all I would say that new looks are better than the older one especially the edges but the new sound is really poor.

Trust me guys this bike is damn so beast-ialistic! As a friend said somewhere above, Beasts are always uglier than Angels, but Beasts have an instinct DNA, of which the new headlamps are trademarks. Once Ride it, You would love it physically and practically even.
I don't really care of the negative feedbacks , but I personally didn't find any such vibrations like in the earlier models(even after 6000 rpm and 85kmph in the 5th Shift.. Damn cool, I am in love with her, And am going to get one this Festive season..!
Love You Apache..

the older apache looks stylish and compactable when compared to both the new one aswell as the older rtr models .
