Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 unveiled at the AutoExpo 2012

Royal Enfield unveiled its much anticipated Thunderbird 500 at the first day of the 2012 AutoExpo. Royal Enfield seems to have really paid attentention to details on the new bike.

Engine Specs: Fuel Injected, 500 cc engine with Max power: 27.2 bhp @ 5250 RPM & 41.3 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. Which essentially means that the engine of the Classic 500 has been shared here.

Price: The price has not been officially announced so far

Launch dates: Mid 2012

Features: The new features on the Thunderbird 500 is actually the talking point here. List of features/changes include:

  • A matt black paint to the engine covers

  • Rear Disc Brake (240 mm)

  • 55 Watt Projector light (for low beam)

  • A new Oval section swingarm

  • Revised Seat-Footpeg-Handlebar position for a more comfortable stance

  • Split seat (pillion seat can be removed to accommodate luggage)

  • LED Taillamp

  • Digital trip meters (on speedo console)

  • 41 mm thick front forks

  • Rear wheel is 18 inch (Thunderbird 350 has 19 inch)

  • New design silencer exhaust, footpegs and rear view mirrors



Colors: Black seems to be theme here [1] Midnight black [2] Matt Metallic Black [3] Arctic Winter Black

Simply sick. If it was launched a year, this bike with this specs, man I need not say anything. The machine would have done all the talking!! Now that's RE. Get's my seal of approval 1000X :)

RE has taken a leap with equipment on this one. Definitely what should always be present on a Rs. 1 lakh+ bike today. I wouls love to see some parts on the Classic series. ;)
But, though the ITalian-like attention to detail and handcrafted is evident, the proportions are again messed up. The taol with the rear- mudguard looks weird and almost ugly and the front end is too tall.

I share similar opinions about the T-brid from Royal Enfield.. according to me it is a confused bike with totally awry proportions
