43 2011 Hero Honda Karizma R launched

Details of the 2011 Karizma R has surfaced on Hero Honda's website..

A couple of months back, a guy from my society bought a Pulsar 220F. On being asked why he did not opt for the Hero Honda Karizma R instead, he told me:

"I used to like the Karizma R very much, but now the same bike seems bit outdated".

Therefore to win back such prospective customers out there, Hero Honda have launched its new/refreshed 2011 version of the Karizma R (I had posted about spy pics of the same being seen in late Dec 2010).

So what's new in the new 2011 Karizma R?

2011 Hero Honda Karizma R

Mechanically the 2011 Karizma R gets a Bharat Stage III (BS III) compaint engine. Hero Honda says that the new engine has got "ASFS" tech. The power/torque figures of the engine is still exactly same as the older model. The 2011 Karizma does get a "Maintenance Free battery though.

But the major changes have been limited to "Slight Cosmetic Changes".

2011 Hero Honda Karizma R

Posted below are the summary of the different cosmetic touches on the new Karizma R.

2011 Hero Honda Karizma R

Cosmetic Chages in the 2011 Hero Honda Karizma R:

2011 Hero Honda Karizma R Speedometer[1] Redesigned graphics
[2] Clear lens turn indicators
[3] Black colored alloy foot peg side set
[4] Black colored rear swing arm
[5] Black (full) colored chain cover
[6] Black/Chrome finishing on front disc brake rotor
[7] Black colored fuel tank cap
[8] Copper (dull) colored front forks
[9] Red colored spark plug cap
[10]Engine reflector
[11]New speedometer dial background (the earlier one had a yellow background)

Prices:

To its credit, Hero Honda does not seem to have increased the prices of the new Karizma. The official website still displays the price of the older model. i.e

[1] For the variant with Red Alloy Wheels: Rs.75,800 (Ex-Showroom Delhi) / Rs. 84,622 (On-Road Delhi)

[2] For the variant with Black Alloy Wheels: Rs. 75,100 (Ex-Showroom Delhi) /Rs. 83,854 (On-Road Delhi)

A few features could/should have been added:

The Karizma R enjoys a reputation in India of being a very good touring bike. To maintain the same reputation, the Karizma badly needs Tubeless tyre & a Powerful Headlight. The current 35 watt headlight is not adequate when compared to the dazzling 55 watt projector headlamp of the Pulsar 220F.

But Hero Honda hasn't given the 2011 Karizma R tubeless tyres and the 35 watt headlamp still features on the new bike. The omission of tubeless tyres from the 2011 Karizma is odd since even the 150 cc Hero Honda Hunk now gets tubeless tyres.

2011 Hero Honda Karizma R: Colors

Two new colors, Spotlight White and force Silver have been added to the 2011 line up.

Will the 2011 treatment to the Karizma R be enough to stop guys like the one from my society (mentioned in the beginning) to buy some other bike instead of the Karizma..??

I personally like (new) Karizma R more than ZMR.
:-)
The thing about it, i liked most, is its proportionate looks.I mean its not as bulky as ZMR from front and not as thin as Pulsars from end.
:-)
Everything in it is just best. The headlamp, dual tail lamp, front fairing designs are just awesome.
:-)
I like its taillamp more than pulsars.
I wonder why HH only play sticker game on it.

The only and only thing i miss on the bike is rear disc brake.Nothing more.
:-)
and i like the white colour on it with ZMR type paintjob.
:-) :-)

Agree with saurabh.......
I feel, now it needs more than some cosmetic upgrade......
Including rear disc brake......

They should have given tubeless tires and most importantly DC lightening system "atleast" for their premium bikes! for constant illumination and tubeless tires and led tail lamps for low maintainance would still remain wishes for new karizma R...

Still its ahead of game...in reliability..looks..stability!

@Above,

the Karizma does have DC Lighting. In fact Karizma had DC lighting right from day one since it was launched.

HH should stop doing these 'downgrades' to the Karizma. Each one has made the bike look more dated, cheap and ugly than the previous iteration. The original one is still the best...

I have bought White Karizma R on 24-02-2011 and trust me, it looks awesome, just like a dream bike..... The paint job is same as on ZMR and the white shade costs 1500 bucks more than the other shades...

what is the difference between R and ZMR?

Payeng said...

@Simha,

The ZMR has

1. A fuel injected engine (Karizma R has got carburettor)

2. Oil Cooling (like Pulsar 220)

3. LED tail lamps

4. Full fairing

5. In terms of peak power there is not much difference between the Karizma R and Karizma ZMR

great disappointment...not much..just a case of old wine in new bottle...!!

LOL, atleast Honda Tiger in Indonesia is getting a major change soon (or so they say, rumour mill hehehe). I can't understand why Honda can keep selling these obsolete bikes, Tiger in Indonesia, Karizma in India, they're not fuel efficient, priced uncompetitively, engine is so-so (no, they're not up to the level of Japanese made bike or global platform bike like CBR 250), and the features are limited. I guess brand name does sell everywhere, lol.

that is one of the reasons even i bought Pulsar220SF and not karizma. things which i needed were:
good electrical setup(many of my friends even karizma even fails to carry HIDs)
clip-ons,
rear disc,
tubeless tyres and probably a wider rear tyre.

Another major drawback, Karizma has such poor fuel efficiency compared to the more powerful Pulsar220SF.

Hi,
I am going to buy a new bike next month. After using Karizma R few months, I am able to think any other bike. But I will not buy it. I will most probably go for Honda Unicorn Dazzler. because of two reasons:
1. Lack of tubeless tyres: Its the main drawback of Karizma that it doesn't have tubeless tyres. Who wants to get in trouble if your bike punctures midway, esp. when you are with girlfriend or wife. Many times it may become risky.
2. Lack of rear disk brakes: though minor drawback, but only front disk brake with rear drum is a faulty design which can put rider in trouble when, at critical point, u need most.

I definitely loves Karizma R but even then I can't buy it due to above two drawbacks, mainly the first one.

Hope, company may rectify this.....
