Dec 2010 sales numbers of our Indian 2 wheeler manufacturers..

Traditionally the month of Dec has lower sales due to the fact that most Indians prefer their new vehicle to be registered in the new year (as one registered in Dec is considered one year older than one registered one month later in Jan).

Despite this, the positive growth story continues for all manufacturers, with Hero Honda leading the pack with an unbelievable half million (5 lakhs) sales in Dec 2010..!!


Note: The monthly sales figures include:

1. Domestic sales as well as exports and also

2. Sales of all types of 2 wheelers (Motorcycles, Scooters, Mopeds etc.)



Hero Honda sold 501,111 units in December 2010 (Up by 33% over last year)

Hero Honda The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda today reported a 33 per cent growth in sales at 501,111 units for December 2010 over the same month (375,838) in the previous year.

In a statement, the company said it has recorded a sales growth of 16.4 per cent during the calendar year 2010 with cumulative sales of over 5 million units.

"2010 has been an outstanding year for Hero Honda. For the coming year, we further intend to solidify our leadership by launching new products combined with customer-focused marketing programs," Hero Honda Motors Sr VP (Marketing & Sales) Anil Dua said.

The company said during the October-December quarter of 2010, the company has sold 1,428,030 units, registering a 29 per cent growth over the same period in 2009.




Bajaj Auto sold 243,675 units of two-wheelers in December 2010 (Up by 11% over last year)

Bajaj Auto Ltd. Vehicle manufacturer Bajaj Auto backed by its popular brands Pulsar and Discover, has reported 10 per cent growth (including 3 wheeler) in its sales in December 2010.

On the motorcycles segment, the company had sold 243,675 units in December 2010 registering an increase of 11 per cent as against 219,920 units sold in the same month of previous year, it said.

Brands from the company the Pulsar and Discover registered 70 per cent of its sales, it said.

On the commercial vehicle category, the company witnessed a marginal increase of five per cent. Bajaj Auto had sold 33,128 units in December 2010, as against 31,575 units in the same month of previous year, it said.

Besides, the company witnessed a slight increase of 4 per cent on the exports segment. The company had sold 95,388 units in December 2010 as against 91,369 units sold in the same month of previous year in the overseas market.


TVS Motor sold 168,359 units of two-wheelers in December 2010 (Up by 41% over last year)

TVS Motors Total two wheeler sales for TVS Motor witnessed a sizeable increase of 41% with sales of 168,359 units against 119,701 units registered in December 2009.

Consequently, cumulative two wheeler sales for the period April 2010 to December 2010 increased by 34% with sales of 1,485,102 units over 1,109,054 units in April to December 2009.

Domestic sales of the company increased by 46% with sales of 149,357 units in December 2010 against 102,479 units reported in December 2009.

Scooter sales grew by an impressive 94% with sales of 41,804 units as against 21,566 units recorded in December 2009. Motorcycles sales recorded a growth of 24% with sales of 61,404 units in December 2010 as against 49,560 units in December 2009.

The company exported 19,002 units of two wheelers in December 2010 against 17,222 units registered in December 2009.

Three Wheeler

In December 2010, the company sold 3,500 units of three wheelers against 1,212 units sold in the comparable month of the previous year. Cumulative three wheeler sales for the period April 2010 to December 2010 stood at 27,863 units against 8,707 units, a growth of 220%.



Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has sold 140,642 units of two-wheelers in December 2010 (up by 20% over last year)

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today reported 20 per cent growth in sales at 140,642 units in December 2010 over the same month (117,200) previous year.

In a statement, HMSI said the overall growth during the month stood at 20 per cent in December 2010 and the motorcycle segment contributed the most.

In the domestic market, the company sold 53,821 units of motorcycles, 76,263 units scooters. The exports contributed 10,558 units in December 2010, it added.



Yamaha India sold 34,839 units of two-wheelers in December 2010 (Up by 70% over last year)

Yamaha India Two-wheeler maker India Yamaha Motor today reported a 69.71 per cent rise in its total sales in December 2010 at 34,839 units.

The company had sold 20,529 units in the same month the previous year, India Yamaha Motor said in a statement.

In the domestic market, the company's sales stood at 26,567 units as against 13,612 units in the same month in 2009, up 95.17 per cent. Exports of India Yamaha rose by 19.59 per cent to 8,272 units from 6,917 units in the year-ago period, it added.

For the entire 2010, the company's sales increased by 30.75 per cent to 3,50,264 units from 2,67,895 units in 2009. The domestic sales during last year stood at 2,58,987 units as against 2,18,625 units in the previous year, up 18.46 per cent.

Exports also rose by 85.26 per cent to 91,277 units from 49,270 units in the year-ago period.



Suzuki Motorcycle India has sold 25,837 units of two-wheelers in December 2010 (Up by 78% over last year)

Suzuki Motorcycle India Two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle India today reported a 77.59 per cent growth in its sales in December at 25,837 units compared to 14,549 units in the same month last year.

"We have received very good response from the market to all our products including the newly-launched, Suzuki SlingShot series. We are committed to continue this growth momentum in future," Suzuki Motorcycle India Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) Atul Gupta said in a statement.



Mahindra 2 Wheelers has sold 14,971 units of two-wheelers in December 2010 (Up by 83% over last year)

Mahindra 2 WheelersThe company’s (Mahindra 2 Wheelers) sales for the month of December 2010 stood at 14,971 units, as against 8,199 units in December 2009, an increase of 83%.

Total cumulative sales from April to December 2010 stood at 122,859 units, as compared to 37,977 units for the same period last year, an increase of 224%.

The Oct- Dec quarter sale on scooters stood at 47,403 units which is more than twice of what was achieved in the previous year same quarter. This quarter also saw the launch of Mahindra Stallio and the volume stood at 4,626 units.

The monthly sales of HH is more than double than Bajaj on previous month.
I think its mainly because of 100 cc segment of HH.

If you compare monthly sales of only 150 and plus segment the winner is only and only ..
