10 Yamaha launches FZ/FZ-S "Midnight" Limited Edition

Yamaha tries to keep the FZ fresh with yet another limited edition model..

Last year Yamaha India had launched limited edition FZ-16/S and Fazer in white color. This year it’s the turn of an all black colored limited edition FZ and FZ-S named as "Midnight".

Yamaha FZ Midnight Limited Edition

Apart from the all back body the alloys are finish in golden color. The price of this limited edition is about Rs. 3,000 more than the regular models. The bike indeed is looking stunning.

Limited editions keep the product fresh but the only problem with such limited editions is finding spare body panels (when needed) of the same limited edition color scheme.

Kick starter on the FZ..!!

In a rather surprise move, the bike also features a kick starter (FZ models so far did not have kick starter)..!!

Kick Lever on the Yamaha FZ

The kick starter lever with its odd shape is looking very much out of place. Also according to whatever news that I have heard, all future FZ-16/S and Fazer models will come with this type of kick lever.

Why the Kick starter on the FZ..??

Forget whatever the showroom guys that would be telling you. Having only self start is no more a barrier for customers who buy bikes above Rs. 70,000. Pulsar 180, Pulsar 220, CB Unicorn Dazzler, R15, Karizma ZMR all still sell without the kick lever. Don’t they?

Yamaha Byson

Yamaha Byson

The FZ models will get the kick starter as the same engine/bike is being exported to Indonesia as the Byson, which also has the same ungainly kick lever (Indonesians are a little bit particular about having kick start on their bikes). Therefore as a manufacturer I’ll rather not make two different set ups when the engine is exactly the same, and in the process save money during manufacturing.

2009, Limited Edition FZ in white color

2009, Limited Edition FZ in white color

It has been almost 2 and half years since the Yamaha FZ was launched in India. Agreed that there are many more color options to be explored but Yamaha India, how about launching a 200/250 cc FZ as a variant which also does justice to its looks..??

Exactly, putting a kick lever to the FZ is like downgrading it. It's looking so odd there.. !! :-(

Does that mean they will be supplying these editions with inferior batteries, and as a precautionary measure they've put in place such 'out of place' looking kick lever.

they should have given rear disk instead of a kick starter, anyway that'll be next i'm sure

i've heard that the byson's crankcase is slightly different fron our fz's coz it seems they could fit the bore and head of the r15/vixion on it directly,
is this true? or could we do the same as well?

@nBn, the cylinder-piston kit of the R15 is very different from that of the FZ. It cannot be fitted on the FZ for sure.

Hey Payeng,
Hope you r doing good dude...i keep checking your articles...keep up the good work dude n sometimes i give my comments like this...I am just waiting for any News from Bajaj...as HH, Yamaha n TVS...just doing sticker jobs n which is very sad...

Also any news about R15 (with 46 - similar to V.Rossi motogp bike)??? As i had read an article on that by you sometime back... is Yamaha launching it in india?? As i am keen on it (As die hard fan of V.Rossi - The Doctor) n lets see if it works out to good!!!

Also any idea when 250 cc bike or 300 cc bikes will be launched officially (like KTM or Mojo might launch this year - i.e. on-road officially)...TC...

Hi Sharath, good to hear from you. Please send me an e-mail. Click on the "Ask me a Question" link on the top.

The Moto GP color type of R15 is according to me definitely a probable color from Yamaha. If Colombia has got it so should India, but so far there has not been any news from Yamaha India about it (By the way, Rossi is moving to Ducati next year :-) ).

There is a rumored 250 cc from Honda, by the end of this year.
