Hero Honda launches the 2010 version of the 125 cc Super Splendor
The 2010 version Super Splendor looks more like a Super Passion to me..
2010 Hero Honda Splendor.
News of the 2010 Super Splendor launch: Economic TimesNeedless to state that the humble 100 cc Splendor is a piece of automotive history. Hero Honda probably though that the easiest way to replicate the success of the 100 Splendor in the 125 cc category was by launching a 125 cc replica of the Splendor.
Accordingly Hero Honda launched the Super Splendor in 2005 with the much publicized "Quantum Core" engine. There were quite a few, including yours truly who made fun of the "Quantum Core" Super Splendor probably because of the ultra conservative styling and the unexciting performance.
In the last 5 years the Super Splendor have not managed to repeat the success of the 100 cc Splendor in terms of sales success.
But when I had visited my home state Assam back in 2007, I was surprised to see Super Splendor’s plying almost everywhere. The people in my state appreciated the simple "honest commuter" like styling and the 125 cc engine which had more than decent performance the 100 cc Splendor.
The Super Splendor might not have been a big success like the 100 cc Splendor, but from my home state experience I realized that in specific pockets it was accepted.
Evolution of the Super Splendor since 2005
The Super Splendor launched in 2005 came with spoke wheels and also had an optional front disc brake. In the later variant silver colored alloy wheels and alloy rear grab rails were added along with 'new decals'. The optional front disc was probably (if I remember correctly) given the miss in the 2nd generation. The engine remained the same throughout though.

2010 Super Splendor
The 2010 version of the Super Splendor gets another cosmetic upgrade. The alloys and the engine casing have been doused in the now in vogue "black color". The front fairing has been redesigned and yes the bike does get a fresh new set of 'decals'.
The lockable tool/glove box above the horizontal engine seems to be slightly bigger and has got a chrome garnish as well.
Hero Honda has done away with the "Quantum Core" stuff this time..
But cosmetically the most significant change according to me is the side panels of the bike. The original Super Splendor had a two piece design. Like the 100 cc Splendor’s design, the battery/air box cover and the tail piece was two separate pieces. But the side panel of the 2010 version is one continuous plastic piece, much like the Passion (the successful 100 cc cousin of the 100 cc Splendor).
The 125 cc engine of the Super Splendor is a very good proven engine which does what it is intended to do, i.e fulfill your commuting needs.
The original Super Splendor might have been very close to the 100 cc Splendor in terms of styling, but that was ok for its target customers (like that of my home state Assam). The 2010 version still is being called as Super Splendor but to me it now looks more like a Super Passion.
Oh, by the way looks like Hero Honda has done away with the "Quantum Core" stuff, this time the side panels proudly wear some "ASFS" acronym instead.

It was really my Mustang!! Still miss a lot!! The 2010 Super Splendor gets all that the bike was missing and I wished it had (minus the fairing though... I guess the previous one looked way better)
I wonder how a bike with this design can achieve high sales in India..
in Indonesia, such design IMHO is so old-stylish and odd..
it is really a good bike. i kept it for 4.5 yrs ,it never gave me any serious problem.this is the core reason for hero honda's product to achive good sales. If they add some really good styling in their product then they can do even better.
My goodness!
@Gary, these kind of people who prefer these kind of motorcycles are like the ones in Indonesia who prefer Bebeks no matter what.
I am sure that you get the picture now
