21 2010 Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i to be launched soon..!!

After Pulsar 220-S DTS-i, Bajaj will soon launch the 2010 Edition of the Pulsar 150 DTS-i..

    2010 Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-iClip Ons
    Power: 15.06 Ps @ 9000 rpm
    Torque: 12.5 Nm @ 6500 rpm
Bigger Carburetor for Better throttle response

That's what the Bajaj Pulsar (Official) Fanpage on Facebook says about the soon to be launched 2010 edition of the Pulsar 150 DTS-i..!! (Source: Click here..)

The Pulsar 150 has been by far the best selling 150 cc motorcycle in India since it was launched in 2001. But after the arrival of new entrants in the 150 cc category like the Honda Unicorn, Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme, Suzuki GS150R and the Yamaha FZ-16, people started to think that the old warhorse might have seen its best days.

Now with 15.06 Ps of peak power, the Pulsar 150 DTS-i becomes the most powerful "air-cooled" 150 cc motorcycle in India..!!

Even when the 2009 edition (Upgrade IV) of the Pulsar 150 DTS-i was launched, vociferous voices initially crucified it on various blogs/forums/sites, stating that just putting a Pulsar 200 like tank extension and giving the "all black" look to the alloys and engine covers was not enough.

But since then, the sight of increasing number Pulsar 150 UG IV’s on our roads have proved its critics (including me) wrong.

With the younger and smart looking brother, the Pulsar 135LS snapping at the heels of most of the bigger 150 cc bikes in the country, this upgrade for the Pulsar 150 makes sense. Apart from getting sporty clip on handlebars, with 15.06 Ps of peak power, the Pulsar 150 DTS-i now becomes the most powerful "air-cooled" 150 cc motorcycle (discounting the R15) in India..!!

It will now be interesting to note if the same vociferous voices would again start to crib against this new model. In any case, I don’t think the real customers pays heed to such voices as they seem to have an opinion of their own.

But for enthusiasts, more power is always welcome.. after all "More is Less".

2010 Pulsar 150 DTS-i, Max Power= 15.06 Ps @ 9000 rpm
2009 Pulsar 150 DTS-i, Max Power= 14.09 Ps @ 8500 rpm

Max Power figures of current 150 cc bikes (air cooled):

Hero Honda CBZ-Xtreme, Max Power= 14.40 Ps @ 8500 rpm
Hero Honda Hunk, Max Power= 14.40 @ Ps 8500 rpm
Yamaha FZ-16/S, Fazer, Max Power= 14.00 Ps @ 7500 rpm
Suzuki GS150R, Max Power=13.98 Ps @ 8500 rpm
Honda Unicorn, Max Power= 13.50 Ps @ 8000 rpm

Note: Interestingly the 2010 Pulsar 150 DTS-i will now make max power figure which is nearly equal to what its older brother, the Pulsar 180 used to make in 2001.

i.e. 15 bhp..!!

[P.S: More details, price and photos will be updated later]

Hi Sankoobaba and Anil Kumar.. nice to see you too.

I am not sure about whether there would be any visual upgrades.. lets wait and see.

hmmm....

I hope that Bajaj is paying some attention towards the Power:Weight becuase Pulsars have always been the heaviest in their genere which always results in an underplay for them.

So, if the new P150 holds its weight from the previous version... then the added power is really a boon else I don't see what difference it's gonna make to the overall rideabilty of the new P150 if the weight is also increased along with the Power!!

But cheers to Bajaj.... two releases in the new year already :)

Hi Payeng- I would like to comment here that Yamaha R15 is the most powerful bike in the 150cc segment capable of producing 17ps of power. :D
althought its a different class altogether!

Payeng said...

@Above point taken.. but as you yourself pointed out the R15 in a different class..

and not to forget, the R15 would cost nearly double of what the Pulsar 150 would cost.

Anyway, I have modified the post to most powerful "air cooled 150 cc" now

Hey Payeng.Don't mind me for asking but i for one was looking forward to a test ride of the pulsar 135 ls by you.Could you atleast compare the 135 with its competitors since the bike is creating a lot of buzz these days.

dear payang,
nice to meet you. One thing u need to consider also. the technology of Yamaha is advanced compared to Bajaj DTSI. If R 15 cost might be more but the features in that bike meets the price and value for money

@Anil Kumar,

I have taken a good test ride of the Pulsar 135LS.. Would post about its ride experience a couple of days later.

As a prelude, let me tell I have been plesantly surprised and impressed by the Baby Pulsar 135LS.

DUde, you missed the torque figures? I guess you deliberatly did that. You have been a Bajaj guy since your xbhp days...

the new pulsar has the lowest torque, bad handling bike in the entire segment of 150ccs available in the country.

Payeng said...

@Raj,

Please do not say like this, since you don't me properly.. actually I have been a Bajaj guy even before my xBhp days or start of this blog.

Was just revisiting this thread when I saw the comment from Raj.

Funny observation there on the torque numbers. If anybody is saying Pulsars are bad because they have low torque, and bad handling in the entire 150cc segment, then people should have stayed away from the mighty Yamaha R1, because the '09-'10 R1 has the "Lowest Torque" number in the current lot (73.15 lb-ft @ 9000rpm) and experts say that you need to really know how to keep yourself posted on the saddle else, you're gonna see yourself lofted arround every now and then!! But still, it's the Superbike of the Year 09 as per MCN (so, guess they are Yammy guys working on Yammy payrolls on the shadow!! ;).... )

All bikes are excellent machines... it really dependes on the connection that connects the saddle to the handle bar... that's where the weak link of every bike lies!!

Hello Satadal,
Nice to see you blogging once again . :)

It is amazing to know that bajaj has managed to churn out 3 more bhp from the same 150cc engine in gradual years from its launch but that too not at the cost of fuel economy or refinement.
Thumbs up to Bajaj !

Now it literally is the most powerful bike air cooled 150cc bike eclipsing the cbz x-treme/hunk's 14.4 PS .
Moreover it has now come close to the apache RTR160 carb version.
It will be an interesting battle to find out which bike offers performance.
RTR 160 has always been the fastest in its class and i hope this pulsar version can give it some competition .

Surprisingly the torque figures are the lowest in its class , and even lower than unicorn !
And the peak power comes out at peaky 9000 rpm

Payeng said...

Hi Anil, thanks..

Yes the torque seemed to have come down. Have to take a test ride to see how the 2010 version has turned out.
