44 Suzuki launches 150 cc GS150R in India..!! [Hi-Res. Pics/Photos]

Suzuki India launches it first 150 cc motorcycle in India.. the GS150R

This post (and a few more in the coming days) is meant to chronicle the launch of motorcycle(s) in India between May-Oct 2008 (the period during which "The Bike Chronicles of India" was briefly inactive)..

[Posted Below are Hi Res Photos of the GS150R..]

On 23'rd Oct. 2008, Suzuki launched its first 150 cc motorcycle for India, the GS150R. The following has been taken from Suzuki's press release for the GS150R..

"Armed with world’s first eco-mode-equipped engine rpm indicator, the new bike has a unique GSX-R-derived engine rpm indicator lights that provide indication to the rider about the optimum up-shift timing.

Moreover, sporty style headlight, with built-in positioning light inspired from Suzuki international super bike, GSX-R, gives GS150R a very distinct and muscular look.

The bike also boasts of a super sleek, streamlined aerodynamic shaped LED Tail Lamp and Integrated Rear Turn Signals based on GSX-R styling, which takes the style quotient to the next level."

So Whats' New in the New Suzuki GS150R..??

  • 6 Gears

  • "Engine rpm indicator lights" (as you must have read above)

Looks:

The GS150R actually is a proportionate and handsomely styled motorcycle. But don't get me wrong when I say that this design should probably have come 3-4 years back.

Yamaha FZ16 definitely makes a biker sit up and ogle at it more than once..

This design (GS150R) should probably have come 3-4 years back..

Maybe the bike would look distinctive in the flesh..

In 2008, the Yamaha FZ16 has shown what impact "Distinctive Styling" can make on bikers/consumers.. both the Yamaha FZ16 and the Suzuki GS150R makes 15 Ps max. power. But then the Yamaha (FZ16) definitely makes a biker sit up and ogle at it more than once.

The other hand the Suzuki GS150R has Styling elements which can be traced back to current India 150 cc bikes. For example, the "Rubber Gaiters" on the front forks shout Pulsar 150/180 (the current Pulsar 150/180 has dumped the rubber gaiters though). Even the headlamp which actually mimics the look of the headlamps from Suzuki's International lineup of SuperSport Bikes and Superbikes, actually end up looking very much like the ones from the Bajaj Pulsars. The Front fairing does features pseudo air scoops though.

The side and tail panels also aren't very distinctive in design and kind of reminds me of the Honda Unicorn. The tank, footpegs, exhausts, rear and front fenders, black painted alloys and engine covers all somehow give away a feeling of deja-vu.. at least by looking at the pics/photos of the GS150R. Maybe the bike would look distinctive in the flesh.

Equipment Levels

The GS150R comes with a Digital Speedometer and a Tail Light which comes equipped with LEDs. The turn indicators on the rear are integrated with the tail light unit (much like the ones on the CBZ Xtreme). The GS150R gets 6 gears which would be the second Indian Bike to feature one after the Yamaha R15.

The GS150R will comes in four colors:

  • Black

  • Red

  • Gray

  • Blue

Price:

The GS150R would be priced at Rs 59,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), which would be on par with the current 150 cc motorcycles sold in India (Except the Yamaha FZ16 and R15)

The GS150R is avilable for booking right now but would be delivered in January 2009. One can visit Suzuki Motorcycle India's website for more details.

welcome back satadal

Looks like Pulsar, unicorn, cbz-xtreme...all in one. Whatever maybe the performance...bikes sell on looks too. Suzuki should have come up with something original. Am disappointed too.

Unknown said...

its for those who loves performance n competetive price. if someone wants looks then there is no. of options including r1 r15 fz karizma p200 p220 etc.

Unknown said...

Sucks man..
Why the f@## would some one release a bike like this when there are r15's and fz's being introduced in the Indian market..
So stupid.. funny looking bike..

HI SP,
Good to see you back on the blogosphere !!
Welcome back !!

Well, on this Suzuki 150ier, seems to have a hangover of Zeus...

its nice wat is the estimated milage of this gs150r bike

very bad!!!!!
i didnt expect this!

dont they have some sporty with 200 plus CC

Unknown said...

This is really disappointing.. We expect much more from suzuki but GS150R sucks.. Suzuki has not learnt lessons from past mistakes.. How to describe this bike?? Dated looks, No monoshox, No rear disc, No 2-piece grabrail.. Alloy wheels and rear view mirrors from Zeus which looks so old.. nothing gr8 abt headlamp unit and graphics.. and 149cc and 13.8 bhp?? Suzuki will proudly speak abt 6-speed gearbox and integrated tail lamp unit (really funny).. wake up suzuki.. India is not a country where u can dump ur outdated models...

Unknown said...

Just like a normal bike. Nothing special about it.

Anonymous said...

Bravo Suzuki… What an achivement !!! 149 cc/13.8 bhp bike? Just look at Apache RTR (and RTR FI), You will come to know what Indian people want..(need to mention FZ16?) GS150R looks simple commuter bike (it is) so what is use of 6th gear which is useless in city ridin?? We will right away throw your outdated model…

Anonymous said...

it is nice looking bike am booking one

Anonymous said...

I have driven it. Pl don't give a comment on it without a test ride. I give most importance to a ride quality for which a bike is used. Other bikes you may keep in show case. This bike was comfortable, noiseless, had a nice control and road grip no vibration at the speed of 85 km/hr with pillion rider.. Take a test ride!

Unknown said...

Ashish, Who says monoshox and rear discs are just for enhancing the looks? If they had provided monoshox, ride quality wud have been much better (which is the most imp according to you) and disc brake will improve stopping power.. dont just keep splendours , boxers and platinas in mind.. grow up man.. this is 2009 and this bike looks like it was designed in 1999...

Anonymous said...

its seems to be suzuki is used to old styling or may be they 2-3 yrs behind others competitors, bike is a mix of extreme, pulsar and apache, they could have come with a better styling, 6th gear is utter waste for a bike with city riding type styling

Unknown said...

They dont wanna take pain to design a fresh model for India.. They just used the available moulds/parts for this bike..Somehow 6 speed gear box was available with Suzuki and they managed to fit the same without considering actual need..
The fact is 6 speed box is not required when you are designing a commuter bike..Except for highways we cant even use 5th gear..

Anonymous said...

I am not feeling really happy after reading this above comments. What I was looking for a 200 CC and above Powered bike when we are talking about 6 speeds. Here one more point I would like to add is the more we make a bike look heavier the more it would tax on fuel consumption. Here I donot care abt fuel consumption but it should provide me the performance for what it is consuming. Not just because my Bike looks heavier

Unknown said...

hi this rajesh,

i always expect what the next generation bike from suzuki but now GS150R came but something is missing.
pls, next time to make model better than this. we hope.

Anonymous said...

might not be the most excitin one..but it can be really purposeful.good for highway stints.6 gears means it wud be relaxed at high rpms and suzuki bikes are defntly pretty comfortable..i think purpose n quality matters more than looks n it looks decent atleast.although a higher capacity bike wud hav been better for long rides..i wont consider R15 for long hauls as its high revvin n karizma despit being best 4 tourin, has got meagre mileage..

Anonymous said...

I would disagree with kamal, few years ago even 5th was not needed for a commuter bike, the fact is that 5th or 6th gear are not only introduced for speed, more speed is the least reson to introduce 6th gear, its more of an overdrive gear for better milage even for a 150cc and to make the ride more smooth at high speed. I can vouch for that, bike reaches 100 on 5th gear but when you apply the 6th one at 105 you feel engine comfort......

Sundar BS said...

Ok Guys,

Now listen,

When u r at 5th gear n u r at 50kmph, RPM indicator will be at 4500RPM but when u r at same speed n at 6th gear,RPM indiator ll be at 3800-4k RPM. Thats how it gives extra mileage m that is the use of 6th gear..

Anonymous said...

yes i am agree with sam its bike is really good its reach 115 on 5th gear nice handling no vibration its a really good bikeeeeee

Anonymous said...

Great Bike. Many might say it is a mix of Pulsar (pickup, gizmos, and looks), Unicorn (smooth engine), and Apache (looks, gizmos, pickup and agility). Well, if GS150 is all these 3 in 1, then why not? You have everything. As for fz16, it just an overhyped bike which has only looks, but no pickup. Suzuki GS150R is the best bike to buy in the market right now. Complete package, but it could have been a little lighter. -Antony

can any body tell me the topspeed?

Anonymous said...

The best commuter bike in India. Do not afraid about the 6th gear you can start using it from 40KM speed. It is a overdrive gear and by shifting to it you will feel the comfort which other bikes in 150CC is failing to give. Butter smooth engine and it is not having any vibrations even in 100KMs. If you wish to get a sporty look go for any other bike. If you wish performance/milage/Communter Bike (Family Bike) close your eye and go for Suzuki GS 150 R. I crossed 2000KMs with this bike now. Fully satisfied.

108 KM is the top speed

Gs150r is agood bike. very comfortable&very smooth. i have test driven this bike. i also booked this bike after test drive.

what is the speciality of FZ compare with other 150CC bike????no pickup, no milage, not comfort for back seat passanger!!! and in the cause of pulser, performence only one year after that sound will come from engine and no performence, no milage, we feel engine work is not smooth. suzuki bike can compare with unicorn and CBZ (compare with pickup, milage, price, comfort etc),we can ride this bike at 6th gear in 45km, and smooth engine.

There is “no bike like GS 150R in India yet”
I like to get this bike by the end of this month.
Even it gives tremendous control @ a speed of 120 kmph.
It’ll b a grant success for Suzuki.
Suzuki is also deciding to launch 2010 version of GS 150R.
It gives looks of Sports edition model such as Fazer,R15.
No bike can break the functions of GS 150R

Well as I read the comments, I don't agree with my lot friends here.

GS 150 R and its competetors Pulsor 150, hunk, CBZ, TVS Appache and Yamha R15.

Before purchasing my bike I did try to find out the qualities & weekness of all.

I came to know that no other bike (may be) provide Indicator for which gear you are driving, most of them are just 5 gears drive, look wise yamaha bikes are superior but on mileage they too poor & due to that Person like me can't afford who drive 60 km per day.

Pulsor is definitely a good option but Pulsor in itself too old & something new should be introduced by BAJAJ.

As GS 150R got the bike of the Year award and its ride was really comfort.

I prefered style, looks, Averege & most imp. "TECHNOLOGY"
thats GS 150R
