30 Auto Expo 2008 Coverage: TVS Flame and 2008 Gladiator [Wallpaper]

125 cc bikes from TVS and Yamaha at the Auto Expo 2008..

TVS Flame: (Max Power: 10.5 bhp)

"Flame" the new 125 cc bike from TVS Motors was placed in the center of the TVS Motor Pavilion in the Auto Expo 2008. This goes to show how much attention TVS Motors is showering on their latest 125 cc bike.

There was a RED and a Yellow Flame displayed prominently at the TVS Pavilion. Posted below are two wallpaper sized pics of the Yellow TVS Flame.

Previously I had commented that the new 125 cc Bajaj XCD Sprint DTSi looks better than the Flame. But after you look at the Flame, you will find that the Flame now appears to be a better looker..

The looks and new design elements of the Flame was published in an earlier post. There is also a unique storage space on the tank of the Flame. In flesh the Flame looks bigger than a 125 cc bike and in the league of a 150 cc bike. The Flame should be able to accomodate 6 footer guys easily.

According the the TVS guys present at the Expo, the Flame should be available very soon at TVS dealers across the country.

Yamaha Gladiator SS/RS: (Max Power: 11 Ps)

Yamaha India has shown a few variants of its 125 cc Gladiator at the Auto Expo 2008. The Gladiator SS (Stylish & Sporty) and the Gladiator RS (Racing Sports).

Do not go by the fancy acronyms for they are just cosmetic upgrades with the tech specs remaining identical.

There was another variant of the Gladiator kept in the Auto Expo (Pic posted below). It did not have any special name/initial on it, so can't really say whether this particular variant will make it to the showrooms or not. But I kind of liked the color combination on this one more than the SS/RS variants.

The Bajaj XCD Sprint DTSi looks freaky with its sharp looks but I have to say that the XCD also looks smaller compared to the Flame or the Gladiator. The small size might have a positive effect on the Power to weight ratio but might put off someone looking for a generous sized 125 cc machine.

On the other hand, the TVS Flame and and the Yamaha Gladiator have generous propositions which give it a more mature look.

Yamaha has been talkin' about releasin the Gladiator in the second pic..they'd said it'd be a 160cc variant and higher...it's never come around!! all that came was that puny 125cc. Its just disappointing to see that pic and know that it'll never be that good!!

@ Pramod,

You are probably talking about the Concept Gladiator shown in Auto Expo 2006..

Yes, you are right, it was a disappointment and that's exactly the reason why I try not to create "Hype" about any particular model (especially the Prototypes) till the production model is out.

The yamaha website says the new gladiator comes with a Tachometer the concept in 06 had a tachometer and a digital sppedometer is this one like that too?

Payeng said...

I don't know Praseeth..

But seriously I do not think Yamaha should waste any money in trying to push the Gladiator..

I don't see these cosmetic touches on the Gladiator will help push its sales.

Hi Sahil,

I wish I could take the test ride of the TVS Flame.. but..

My bike is yet to arrive in from Bangalore.. so I am pretty much grounded here in Gurgaon.. moreover, I don't know much about the locality here..

By the way, Autocar India (Feb 2008 Issue, Yes..!! it was out in mid Jan 08) has carried a test ride review of the TVS Flame.. Maybe I'll publish a brief report on it soon..

But let me tell you that the Autocar Review of the TVS Flame isn't that flattering.

Hi Payeng! Plz tel me which of this bikes is the best commuter bike? Yamaha Gladiator SS, Bajaj XCD and TVS Flame?? I needed a bike with better power and mileage combination! Plz reply me soon!

When I had taken the test rides of 125 cc bikes, (Read: 125 cc Comparision: Bajaj XCD Vs Hero Honda Glamour Vs Honda Shine Vs Suzuki Zeus Vs Yamaha Gladiator..!!), I did not find anything which I did not like about the Gladiator..

In fact I had mentioned that I am surprised that such a good bike isn't selling well..

Maybe the Price of the Gladiator was a bit high compared to the others.

The New Gladiator Tyoe SS/RS is touted to have quite a few modifications (internal as well as external).. I am sure that the new variant of the Gladiator should only be better than the original one (which is itself a pretty good bike)

Meanwhile the TVS Flame is also there, but there is a court case going on with Bajaj Auto..

I would advise you to wait for a few more days before the Gladiator Type SS/RS is officially realeased and the Price announced..

The launch dates of the Gladiator should be somewhere in Feb-2008

Hi Guys
I have booked TVS Flame Bike on January 4th 2008,in Bangalore and i hope i would get the bike within 04-02-08, i may notice delay about delivery of bike to customer as there is no response about when they are providing the Bike.Still they are extending the days and now they are not giving any guarantee about when they are providing the Bike.

So anyone who is planning to take a TVS Flame Bike first confirm whether they will give within 30 days, As even after 30 days completed still i have not got the Bike.So i am planning to take my money back(1000rs) from TVS Showroom which i paid them when i booked the Bike.

They are not providing Disc Brake Option also. They are not providing any proper reason about when i can get bike.

Can anyone state me the Test Ride Reviews of Tvs Flame Bike as i want to know about Bike Performance. Can anyone mail me to samdec830@gmail.com…

Reply or Post response as soon as possible.

Hi Payeng,
I booked a Flame (Delhi) on the 12th of January but the dealer keeps postponing the delivery of the bike because of the ongoing legal battle with Bajaj.
I now you're now sick of being labelled a 'Bajaj' blogger but can you please ask them to stop this legal battle and concentrate on coming up with better bikes than the Flame, and let TVS market their product?
This behaviour is very immature of Bajaj and shows their 'insecurity' when a rival comes up with a product much superior than theirs.
In the end, can you please, please tell me when the Flame will be available in Delhi? If (God forbid!) Bajaj wins the case, I will still go for any bike other than a Bajaj!

Hi,
Further to my previous comment... If Bajaj actually wins the case and manages to stop TVS from marketing the Flame, Bajaj will lose the general goodwill it has with the consumers across the country and its image will take a beating. It will be seen as a mean, insecure company that is not confident of its own capabilities.
Therefore, for the sake of thousands of Flame enthusiasts and for its own sake, Bajaj should agree to an out of court settlement with TVS. Let there be healthy competition in the market.
