23 Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi Launched..!!

Pulsar DTS-Fi 220, the First Fuel Injected Bike from Bajaj released nationwide today

>> "Pulsar 220 develops more Max Power and Torque than the Karizma, that too at a comparitively higher RPM"

>> "Because the max power and max torque is achievd at a higher rpm, it means that the fun continues in the Pulsar 220 longer than the Karizma..!!"

So Finally there are some real bike launches after a brief lull in the Indian Motorcycle Segment. I am not talking about the odd "Sticker" and "Alloy" jobs here.

The most awaited motorcycle of the nation has been finally launced today. The most powerful production bike in India (barring the Royal Enfield Bullet of course) will be there in the exclusive Pro Biking showrooms of your city soon. The Ecomonic Times also carries the story of the launch of the 220.

Technical Specifications of the Pulsar DTS-Fi 220...

Pulsar DTS-Fi 220
  • Engine Capacity: 220 C.C

  • Max Power: (20 Ps/ 14.76 Kw) @ 8500 rpm

  • Max Torque: 19.12 Nm @ 6500 rpm

  • Gears: 5 Speed

  • Tyres: Front: 90/90 X 17" (Tubeless), Rear: 120/90 X 17" (Tubeless)

  • Wheelbase: 1350 mm

  • Fuel Tank: 15 Lts

The Power and Torque figures of its nearest Competitor, the Hero Honda Karizma..

Karizma
  • Max Power: (17 Ps/12.68 kW) @ 7000 rpm

  • Max Torque: 18.35 Nm @ 6000 rpm

  • Wheelbase: 1355 mm

The tech specs of the new Pulsar 220 shows that it develops more Max Power and Torque figures than the Karizma, that too at a comparitively higher RPM. Because the max power and max torque is achievd at a higher rpm, it means that the fun continues in the Pulsar 220 longer than the Karizma..!!

The Karizma finally loses its crown as the performance king at least on paper and I don't have a doubt why the Pulsar shouldn't be the new king on the road as well.

Hail the Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi 220, the new King of Indian Roads..!!

Prices:

  • Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi 220: Rs 81,280 (ex-showroom Delhi)

  • Hero HondaKarizma: Rs. 73,900 (ex-showroom Delhi)

So when can we expect a more powerful Karizma with maybe "Fuel Injection"..??

Hi Kunal, It would be difficult to comment on the Karizma and the Pulsar 220 without taking both of them for a test ride..

Let me take the test rides of both of them and then I'll post my opinion..

By the way.. actually I have my eyes on the Pulsar 200..

You know.....i think its only me when i say that the 220 does not really look that good....it doesnt look bad .But it does not look like a complete bike to me for some reason. The fairing-tank combi is not looking good...they should have gone for a new tank.....but as long as it goves good peerformance...

come on guys!! for god sake, don't compare karizma with the P220.

According to Overdrive magazine
"Karizma is not even on the same planet as the P220."

Payeng said...

Akshun,

I share the same feelings.. P220 looks ok but doesn't have the perfect proportions (at least in pictures)..

I have made up my mind on the Pulsar 200 (according to me its the Pulsar with perfect proportions).. just waiting for a test ride on the P220 first

@ Anonymous,

Comparision of the P220 and Karizma is inivitable.. On paper the P220 seems the more powerful one..

will conduct a test drive whenever I get the opportunity and write about it.

[Guys please post your name along with your comments]

you say that ur eyes are on pulsar 200 even after viewing those horrible pictures ......... i confirmed abt that frm bajaj showroom { bagga link , pitampura } they dun have any info abt changing of front forks .
so i backed off from 200......

Payeng said...

@ Anonymous guys, I again request to please leave your names along with your comments..

Regarding your concern abt the failing front forks of the Pulsar 200, let me assure you all that the problem has been solved.. The Pulsar 200 now comes with a new and sturdy front fork design..

Please observe the design of the earlier forks which had failed.. Bajaj has dumped the faulty design and the 200 now comes with a sturdy design..

I have seen the new forks on the Pulsar 200 myself during my test ride of the 200

Hi all....

The specifications may say that Pulsar-220 is beating Karizma. Really nice but why Bajaj took almost 1 year to release it to market???
The first puls220 add was said it has got many new features, but why Bajaj released new 150,180 and 200 with these features??? Pulsarians told that karizma is not worth to its cost, does the puls220 meet their expectation with 10K more than Karizma??
Shame on Pulsarians to compare the barnd new 220 with the 6+year old Karizma???
Bajaj is far far behind....When they reach closer the Karizma, HeroHonda is going to setup a new model such that Bajaj takes atleast 6years more to reach that..

Hi Anonymous (mind publishing your name please..??), what kind of comments are these..??

"Shame on Pulsarians to compare the barnd new 220 with the 6+year old Karizma???"

Last year in sep i bought a yellow karizma, at that time launch of p220 was very uncertain and my folks told me to choose a bike with an open mind, they told me that the price of the bike is not an issue but they don't want me to whin after a couple of days to buy a new bike, so in confusion i brought a karizma believe me it's still a dream to ride it and the constant staring of people make me grin with ego....lol
ok coming back to p220 i know it would be more fun to ride this bike due to slick engine response but i still have doubts about bajaj's infamous gearbox problem, in looks p220 only scores a 6 out of 10 due to it's odd fairing and useless mirrors which shake like hell due to viberations at higher rpm.
exposed chain drive- i had inquired about it from a tyre shop and they told me that removal of chain cover is only required when we have to put on a 130 size tyre, so in p220 it wasn't a necessity it was a cosmetic surgery which gonna cost an owner with chain set failure, for pete sake we are living in india and not in europe, here we have so much dust and other things which would affect an exposed chain.
no kick start! lol now that's a stupid and very bold step by bajaj, how can they be so sure that their self starter not gonna die or something, and believe me bajaj has the most low standard starting kits installed in their bikes.
no full stand!
if any1 of you out there wanna buy a new bike then go for p200 as it is better looking than p220.
cheers

whoever said shit about the p220 are such dumbasses. seriously, if you all think you know that much about a bike, then why don't you f****n create your own bike that has all the features you wan't.

hey this is dany.... what a f***n bulshit is this Mr. rushy???
its the job of de designers to create a new bike which suits all our taste...and how dare you compare p220 with the karizma?
the karizma is even pretty old and even though its old, the new p220 is not going to come in the track.
I do agree with what aman said.. he is absolutely correct.
and why you guys didnt discuss about the shocks?????????
i think the most waste shock is that of bajaj's and the best shock is of honda....
we loose our stability when going beyond 110+ but remains same for 120+ in karizma....
vibrations are a lot more in pulsar....
pulsar is ALWAYS GONNA BE A LOOOOOOOOSER!!!!!!!!1

Guy, guys..

I aprreciate this blogspot very much for creating a platform for people to express their views on the motoring world. What amazes me though is many people posting hatred/abusive comments are taking matters too personal. LOL. What you ride is your choice. What would be very appreciable to read would be technical details/Specs, which provide basis for a clearer decision making

Payeng said...

Ghostrider,

Abusive comments reflects immaturity nothing else..

In such cases ignorance is the best remedy.

Thanks for the inputs.. will try to provide more details and specs in future posts.

Guys let us not comapare bikes from different "era's" .The Karizma was a trend setter when it was released couple of years back in a senese that it was supposed to give the rider a feeling of owning a top notch bike which has unparalled engineering along with highest pick up scores etc.Now definately the p220 looks like a strong contender. But u know HH is to be blamed .After all what was bajaj in front of HH a couple of years back .And now it is giving HH serious competition.Only HH is to blame them selevs for this situation. They knew p220 fi was coming then god knows what is stopping them from taking the game ahead with Karizma, instead look what they have released - the Karizma R.Even the HH showroom guys
admit that there is nothing new with their new offering. Now if the employees of the company are not excited how do u expect the customer to feel elated after driving such bike. HH - time 2 go on the drawing board and start from scratch. It is fair competition, that all of us want

Anonymous said...

I have riden both pulsar 200/220 and Karizma R.
Pulsar's pick up time is a bit stronger than Karizma. when you ride a pulsar 200/220 you feel quick pick ups. This is more apparant if you have a second person on rear seat.
But gear shifting of Kzma R is smooth as butter.

hey guys i have a p220.you know karizma is older then
bajaj220, but its good as a sports bike but on the other hand p220 is better thn karizma as a sports bike..powerful head light, controlling is best..so why not p220?go and just get it..
