Overdrive Magazine reports that Bajaj has a LPG powered Platina up its sleeve..
The June 2007 issue of Overdrive Magazine carries a story that Bajaj has developed a LPG powered Platina. The model will also run on Petrol.. making it a "duel-fuel" motorcycle.
>>The LPG model is expected to be a little bit costly than the regular Petrol powered Platina
>> LPG is about Rs. 20 per litre compared to Rs. 50 for petrol
Overdrive also has a few pics of the LPG Powered Platina. The bike looks almost the same as the regular petrol powered Platina. Changes in the bike includes a new cap for the tank which holds the LPG. A small container has also been included below the tank (near the fuel release sitch on the left side of the bike) to hold a little amount of petrol.
The LPG Powered Platina is expected to be a little bit costly compared to the regular petrol powered model. Overdrive also states that the bike might give a slightly lower fuel efficieny than the petrol one...
Major issue according to me would be..
>>Availability of LPG refuelling pumps and
>>Safety issue related to the imflammable gas
But LPG being a substantially cheaper fuel at Rs 20 per litre compared to about Rs 50 per litre of petrol (in Bangalore) the LPG powered Platina would be the motorcycle with lowest running cost in India.
Overdrive has not mentioned any launch date of the LPG Powered Platina though.
The major issue according to me would be the availability of LPG refuelling pumps and safety issue related to the imflammable gas. It would be interesting to see the reaction of the Indian consumer if the bike is released.
