20 Hero Honda Splendor NXG Test Ride/Review [Pics/Photos]

I take the Test Ride of the new 100 C.C Splendor NXG from Hero Honda

Hero Honda has done it again. It has launched yet another variant of its best selling 100 C.C CD/Splendor range. And this one finally comes with alloy wheels. So how different is the NXG from the other 100 C.C motorcycles from Hero Honda..??

To find out, I swing a leg over the new Splendor NXG and take her for a test ride..

Looks: Along with its new Silver Colored Alloy Wheels, the Splendor NXG has a new headlamp, tank, side body panels, and taillamp, turn indicators.. and yes.. New Stickers..!! :-)

The headlamp has a design which seems to mimic the "Wolf-Eyed"/"Phantom" headlamp of the new Pulsar UGIII bikes.

Switches are of similar design as those found on the 125 C.C Super Splendors

The Speedometer design is new but it would have looked better with conventional twin pod meters. The one on the Splendor NXG looks more appropriate for a scooter.

Build Quality:Decent build quality if not the best

The fuel swith has a nice design. It feels much better to operate than the usual switches with thin levers.

RideThe riding position on the Splendor NXG is quite commuter friendly and comfortable with an unright stance. The seat is quite comfortable too.

The ride though is a little bit hard...

Handling: ..which in turn translates to stable and a better handling bike.

Which is because of the rear shocks which have a hard set up

But unforunately these are of "non" adjustable types..!!

But even the CD Deluxe (the one shown in the pic on the left) has two way adjustable rear shocks.

Engine Performance: I found the engine of the Splendor NXG similar to the 100 C.C "Splendor" and "Passion" models and not find any perceptible difference in the engine.

It was smooth and had decent power for a 100 C.C commuter

Tech Specs:
  • Engine: 4-Stroke 97.2 C.C

  • Power: 7.7 PS at 7500 rpm

  • Gear: 4 Speed

  • Front Tyre: 2.75 x 18

  • Rear Tyre: 2.75 x 18

  • Tank Capacity: 10.3 Lts

Price:The Splendor NXG is priced at just around one thousand rupees more than the Splendor+. The Delhi ex-showroom price is Rs 40,990 for the spoke version and Rs 41,990 for the alloy wheel version.

Hero Honda might say that the NXG is not a variant, but from the test ride I felt that it is nothing but a Variant. I am also confident that this us not the last one (100 C.C variant) from Hero Honda.

Verdict:The Splendor NXG will carry the successful 100 C.C story for Hero Honda for a few more years. It has a smooth and reliable engine. New body parts and alloys does make it look smart for a commuter. Handling is decent too. The ride quality suffers though. But with the competition (read Bajaj) lowering the price of its "Platina" to Rs. 33,000 (ex-showroom), the Splendor NXG is a bike for the Hero Honda loyalist

another one coming in from honda

it seems all the action is in the 100 c.c segment for now....as the 150 c.c segment experienced radical change also earlier...but hero honda is catching up fast...it is to bikes what maruti is to cars...a trustworthy company

Yes I agree Hero Honda is for bikes what Maruti is for cars.. But only for the 100 c.c segment

Maruti has successfully made a forward move from its 800 to the current best seller Alto. Question is: When will Hero Honda move forward..??

Hello Payeng..
First of all, heartfull thanks, for making such a wonderful site for us, the bikers..

My name is Yogesh..
I m new to this bike world..
thinking of purchasing my first bike, n yes starting with 100cc bike. From ur posts i came to know that hero honda is best in 100cc range.
well that means i hv options :
CD Deluxe.
Splendor NXG.
Passion plus.
But me confused.
i like very much the looks of passion plus than cd deluxe and splendor nxg.
Dont know the current Delhi price of Passion plus.
Please help deciding me the correct bike. and also tell is purchasin bike in this season is ok, or i wait for festival season like diwali for great offers.
Thanks a lot

Yogesh, if you could wait till the festive season then it would be wise to wait for the same.. as companies usually give attractive discounts at that time of the year

As for your choice:

CD Deluxe, Passion Pulsa and Splendor NXG share the same DNA as all of them share a common engine architecture.. the difference comes in equipment level and pricing. I'd suggest that you take a look at these model for yourself and also take individual test rides and then decide..

Hi Yogesh,

Sorry for the late reply..

From the options you have provided above, according to me the Splendor NXG should provide you with the best mileage.. I have to state that I personally have never checked their fuel efficiency, but this is what I have come acroiss in various Auto Magazines..

But Yogesh, why just go for a 100 C.C..?? There is more to a bike than just fuel efficiency. I suggest you look at the 125 C.C's as an option too.

Not only these present crop of 125 cc's offer comparable fuel efficiency to a 100 C.C but are also better in performance and ride and handling..

Anmol,

From the hero honda models you have specified, I think the Super Splendor should be the ideal bike for you..

>> The NXG and the Passion Plus doesn't have electric start

>> The Glamour Fi would be very costly

>> All the above mentioned models will deliver you good mileage and low maintenance.

>> Looks are an entirely subjective opinion and its left to you.

HI

I planned to buy a frugal bike. I'm waiting for the festival season to roll out hoping that it will give good deals. I have 2choices, either HH Cd-Deluxe or Splendor.

# I need a bike for atleat 10years & i will throttle it b/w 30-60Km max speed. Im a single rider and i need good milage and less maintenance.

Now i would like to know

# which bike shall i chose?
# will the diwali bring in good deals for Hero honda bikes? as the company announced that its already doing well so there will be no need for gifts/discounts.

I checked Bajaj XCD, its not good as ost of the components are made of plastic.

TVS brand means Totally Vaste Spending. As in chennai many people complained abt its bad quality & poor maintenance, hidden warranty terms.

with this i prefer Hero Honda. I know these bikes are costlier than its rivals, but in long ter investment i think its good.

pls advice me

bye

I agree that among 100 cc bikes, Hero Honda models are the most refined and have a proven track record of reliable performance..

But that doesn't mean that TVS makes carppy bikes.. TVS is also a very popular brand in Tamil Nadu being its own home grown brand (I have dome my MBA from Tamil Nadu and I have seen its popularity there first hand).

If you have really found the 125 cc Bajaj XCD not upto your mark.. then you can Pick either of the CD Deluxe or the Splendor.. take the test ride and decide for yourself.. (By the way the Hero Honda bikes have as much plastic as the XCD)

But are you really sure that this will be a purcase for the next decade (10 years) for your..??

Why don't you check out the Hero Honda 125 cc bikes as well..??

Hi Payeng,

Thanks for the gr8 reviews on the bikes. I am planning to purchase my first new bike and am a bit confused between these 100cc and 125cc lingo. My basic requirement is good mileage and low maintenance. I have checked the bajaj XCD 125 bike and it look's pretty cool. My friends are insisting for Hero Honda 100cc/125cc bike. I am in a dilemma. Please suggest? By the way my budget is Rs45k and I intend to purchase in this festive season.
